What exactly is PATH Act and how do these tax codes affect my refund?
keep seeing PATH mentioned everywhere but nobody explains what it actually means. Also seeing all these codes like 570 and 971 but im completely lost. Could someone break this down in normal english please? trying to figure out why my refund is taking forever

The PATH Act (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes) requires the IRS to hold refunds that include Earned Income Credit (EIC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) until mid-February. This law was created to prevent fraud. As for codes - 570 means additional account action is pending, and 971 indicates a notice was issued. These usually appear together when the IRS is reviewing something on your return.

•Not necessarily! Its just extra verification. Pretty standard these days especially with credits.

Hey instead of trying to decode all these numbers yourself, I started using taxr.ai - its this tool that reads your transcript and explains everything in plain english. Cost me a dollar but saved me hours of googling random codes lol. https://taxr.ai

I was confused about this too! The whole system is unnecessarily complicated tbh. Like why cant they just speak normal english instead of all these codes??

pro tip: bookmark the IRS2Go app and check it every morning. as soon as you see your bars disappear, thats actually a good sign - means theyre processing your return
