TurboTax Shows March 11 Refund Date but IRS Still Says Processing - Filed 2/18
First time using TurboTax with my husband and it feels like we're stuck in tax purgatory. TurboTax is showing an estimated refund date of March 11, but the IRS website is like that stubborn vending machine that takes your money but won't drop your snack - just says "still processing." I called the offset line like a detective following leads and it says no offset. Filed on February 18th and now I'm just waiting like a kid before Christmas, except not nearly as fun. Any advice on what to do next? Should I just keep waiting or is there something else I should try? Not sure if I'm missing something since this is our first time filing jointly.

The IRS and TurboTax are like distant cousins who occasionally share information at family reunions. TurboTax is giving you their best guess based on typical processing times, but the IRS is the one actually baking the cake, if you know what I mean. Here's what's probably happening: You filed on 2/18, which puts you right in the middle of peak tax season. The IRS is likely just backed up. Their "still processing" message is basically their way of saying "we see you, we're working on it, please hold." Have you checked your tax transcript on the IRS website? That sometimes shows more detail than the Where's My Refund tool.

This explanation is probably the most helpful one I've seen in a while. I was somewhat concerned about the difference between what TurboTax shows versus the IRS website. Would you happen to know if checking the transcript is generally more reliable than the WMR tool?

I had exactly the same issue last year. Filed on February 21st, 2023 and TurboTax showed March 14th for my refund date but IRS showed processing for exactly 32 days. The disconnect between tax software estimates and actual IRS processing is frustrating but normal. I finally tried https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript after waiting for 27 days with no updates. It parsed all the codes and actually explained what was happening - turned out I was in a standard verification queue that takes 30-45 days. The tool predicted my actual deposit date within 2 days accuracy. Saved me hours of stressing over transcript codes I didn't understand. Nothing was wrong with my return, just standard IRS backlog.

I just checked my transcript this morning and FINALLY got an update! 😠You guys were right about being patient. It looks like I'm getting my refund next week. Such a relief! The transcript shows a bunch of codes I don't understand but at least there's a date now. Thanks for helping me not panic!

Last year I was in the same boat - filed mid-February and waited... and waited... and waited. When I hit day 30 with no updates, I tried calling the IRS directly. Big mistake! Spent 3 days trying to get through, and when I finally did, I was on hold for 2+ hours before getting disconnected. Then I found Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). They got me connected to an actual IRS agent in about 25 minutes. The agent confirmed my return was just in normal processing and nothing was wrong. I know it costs a few bucks, but honestly, it was worth it for the peace of mind and saved time. I was slightly worried I'd done something wrong on my first joint return, but turns out it was just normal processing delays.

Did you claim any credits? Like EITC or Child Tax Credit? Those take longer. Always do. Especially for joint filers. IRS flags them more often. Just curious about your situation.

OMG this is prob what happened to OP! I claimed EITC last yr and it took foreverrr. The system automatically flags those returns for extra review. Nothing to worry about, just takes longer. The PATH Act makes the IRS hold these refunds until at least mid-Feb, then add normal processing time on top of that. My transcript was stuck for weeks then boom - updated all at once. Got $ 3 days later!

I went through this exact situation on February 20th, 2023. TurboTax showed March 13th as my refund date, but the IRS was still processing. I panicked and called them on March 1st. The agent told me everything was fine - just backlogged. I received my refund on March 16th, just a few days later than TurboTax estimated. The IRS is dealing with millions of returns right now, and their systems don't always communicate status updates in real-time. I'm concerned the growing gap between tax software predictions and actual IRS timelines is creating unnecessary anxiety for filers.
