Still under PATH - Filed in January - When will WMR update?

Filed my taxes back in January and I'm still showing under PATH on Where's My Refund. Isn't that ridiculous for someone who filed so early? I know they hold refunds with certain credits, but shouldn't they be done processing by now? I'm not getting any younger waiting for this money, folks! Anyone else still waiting who filed in January? When do they typically update these days?

The PATH Act delay is possibly still affecting your return, though it's somewhat unusual at this point in the tax season. Generally, the IRS should have released PATH Act holds by mid-February, but there might be additional factors causing delays in your specific case. It could potentially be related to verification procedures or perhaps system backlogs that sometimes occur during peak filing periods. Have you checked your tax transcript to see if there are any specific codes that might explain the holdup?

I was under PATH hold for exactly 42 days this year. Filed January 27th and didn't see movement until March 10th. The system is definitely backed up more than usual this year.

Check your transcript. Look for code 570. That means hold. Also look for 971. That means notice issued. WMR isn't always accurate. Transcripts tell the real story.

I appreciate this explanation. My sister filed in February and got her refund in 8 days, while I filed in January and I'm still waiting. Makes no sense compared to previous years when early filers got priority.

According to IRS Publication 5027, the PATH (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes) Act requires the IRS to hold refunds claiming EITC and ACTC until at least February 15th. However, we're well past that date now. I went through this exact situation last year and was completely confused by my transcript codes. I finally used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it explained everything - showed exactly why my refund was delayed and predicted my release date within 2 days accuracy. The PATH hold should have lifted by now, but there might be additional verification steps happening in the background.

I've heard about these transcript analysis tools before, but I'm not convinced they know anything more than what we can figure out ourselves. How can they predict release dates when even the IRS representatives can't give exact dates?

Does it actually tell you why you're delayed specifically? I've been trying to figure out if I'm under review or if it's just normal processing at this point.

I filed on January 25th and was under PATH until February 27th. After waiting another two weeks with no updates, I tried calling the IRS on March 12th and spent hours trying to get through. Finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) on March 15th and got connected to an agent in 20 minutes. The agent confirmed there was an additional verification happening on my account that wasn't visible on WMR. My refund was released exactly 4 days after that call. Sometimes you need to speak directly with an agent to get things moving.

The IRS website clearly states most refunds are issued within 21 days. Paying for a service to reach them seems unnecessary when patience usually resolves these issues.

I'm hesitant to use a service like this... did you have to provide any personal information to them? I'm always careful about sharing my tax details.

I was in the same boat last year. Here's what worked for me: 1. First, pull your transcript (not just check WMR) 2. Look specifically for codes 570 (hold) and 971 (notice) 3. If you see code 846, that's your direct deposit date 4. If you don't see movement after PATH lifted, call the IRS 5. Request to speak with an account specialist My return was stuck for 9 weeks after PATH was supposed to lift. Turned out they needed to verify my identity, but never sent the letter. One phone call fixed everything.

Anyone know if the cycle code on transcripts rly matters? Mine says 20241405 but idk what that means for PATH holds. Does that mean I'll get an update this week or nah?

OMG this is so frustrating! I've been checking WMR every single day since January and I'm STILL under PATH! I called the IRS yesterday and after 1.5 hours on hold, they just told me to "be patient" and that "it's still in processing." I need this money NOW for medical bills! Has anyone actually received their refund after being stuck under PATH this long? I'm starting to think they've forgotten about all of us January filers!

For those still under PATH Act delays, here's what you should know: • The PATH Act requires the IRS to hold refunds claiming EITC or CTC until at least mid-February • Even after that date, your return goes through normal processing • Typical processing timeline is 21 days, but can extend to 45+ days during busy periods • Transcript codes provide more information than WMR • Code 570 indicates a temporary hold • Code 971 means a notice has been issued • Code 846 shows your refund date Patience is difficult, but most returns do process eventually without intervention.
