Recovery Rebate Credit Eligibility 2023 - Who Actually Qualifies?

Applied for the recovery rebate credit on my 2020 return but got denied. I meet the income requirements and never got any stimulus checks. What makes someone eligible? The IRS website is super confusing and gives me different answers depending on what page I look at.

Tax pro here. The Recovery Rebate Credit eligibility is pretty straightforward: you needed to be a US citizen or resident alien in 2020, not be claimed as a dependent, and meet the income thresholds. For singles that's under $75k, head of household under $112.5k, and married filing jointly under $150k. But there are lots of reasons for denial - did you verify your identity with ID.me? That's usually the first roadblock.

Yeah I verified with ID.me but still nothing. My AGI was 52k in 2020 😭

Check your 2020 transcript to see if they marked the stimulus as already paid. Sometimes they sent debit cards people threw away thinking it was junk mail.

Instead of trying to piece together eligibility from reddit, you should try taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly why you were denied and what to do next. Its only $4.99 and totally worth it. The AI caught that I was denied because of a name mismatch issue I never would've found on my own. https://taxr.ai

Did you double check that you weren't claimed as a dependent on someone else's return? My parents accidentally claimed me and that's why I got denied.
