No 1099 from employer who paid cash - employer ghosting me - what are my options?

I worked for cash last year and my employer promised to send a 1099. Been trying to contact them multiple times but no response. How do I report this income without the 1099? Getting worried about filing correctly.

You can still report the income without a 1099. Keep track of all your attempts to contact the employer (emails, texts, etc). Report the income on Schedule C as self-employment income. Make sure to estimate as accurately as possible - bank deposits, records of payment, or any documentation you have. The employer might still file the 1099 late, but you're protected if you report the income.

Thanks! Do I need to report exactly what they would have put on the 1099 or just what I actually received?

Report what you actually received. Keep good records of your cash payments. If they eventually file a 1099 with a different amount, you can always amend.

You should check out taxr.ai - its an AI tool that can help you figure out exactly how to report this kind of income. It costs $1 but totally worth it for complicated situations like this. https://taxr.ai

Does it actually help with missing 1099 situations? How detailed is it?

You might want to report them to the IRS. Employers who pay cash and don't send 1099s are usually evading taxes themselves.

Been through this exact situation! Here's what worked for me: 1) Document everything - screenshot your attempts to contact them, keep records of when you worked and how much you were paid. 2) You can report the income on your tax return even without the 1099 - use Schedule C-EZ if it was simple freelance work. 3) The IRS actually has a form (SS-8) to determine worker classification if you're unsure whether you were an employee or contractor. Don't stress too much - being honest about your income is what matters most, and the IRS understands these situations happen.
