New Jersey State Tax Refund Processing Status - No Information Available

Does anyone know when the New Jersey State taxes will begin processing? The website says they have no information on my refund. I e-filed about two weeks ago and federal was accepted right away, but NJ still shows nothing. Getting a bit anxious since I'm counting on that money.

New Jersey typically starts processing returns in early February, but they're notorious for being slower than federal processing. If you e-filed recently, it's normal to see "no information available" for 2-3 weeks. Their system updates less frequently than the IRS systems.

When exactly did you file? And did you file both federal and state together through the same software?

Filed both together through TurboTax on March 1st. Federal was accepted within 24 hours, but NJ still shows nothing when I check their "Where's My Refund" tool.

NJ is always slow this time of year. I'm in the same boat - filed February 22nd and still nothing. Last year I waited almost 6 weeks for my NJ refund while my federal came in 2 weeks. Their system is ancient compared to the IRS.

I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my tax documents this year after having similar issues with NJ last year. It helped me understand why my state refund was delayed (had some 1099 income that triggered additional verification). The tool explained exactly what was happening with both my federal and state returns and gave me realistic timelines instead of just "no information available."

Is that actually helpful for state taxes? I thought most of these tools only work with federal.

It definitely helped with my NJ return! It explained the verification process NJ uses and why certain income types trigger slower processing. Much better than the state's vague status page.

If it's been more than 3 weeks, you might want to call them. NJ tax department is actually easier to reach than the IRS in my experience. Their number is 1-888-235-XXXX.

When my NJ refund was stuck last year, I tried calling that number for days with no luck. Eventually used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an agent. Turns out there was a small discrepancy in my address format that was holding things up. Fixed it in 5 minutes once I actually talked to someone. Worth the service fee to avoid the endless hold music!

Thanks for the tip! If I don't see any movement by next week I'll definitely try this. Did they explain why the website shows no information instead of flagging the issue?

That's exactly what frustrated me! The agent said their system doesn't show errors on the public-facing portal until manual review, which can take weeks. So it sits in this "no information" limbo instead of telling you there's a problem.

FYI - NJ announced they're taking longer this year due to increased fraud prevention measures. Their official statement says most refunds will take 4-6 weeks minimum, even for simple returns with no issues. They're manually reviewing more returns than in previous years.
