Need help filing 2 years of missed state tax returns by mail - tax preparer never submitted them
Just found out my state taxes haven't been filed for the past 2 years. My tax preparer never submitted them but I thought they were getting handled. How do I file these past returns by mail now? Really stressed about penalties.

You'll need to download the state tax forms for those specific years from your state's tax agency website. Most states keep prior year forms available online. Make sure to write 'AMENDED' clearly on top of each return. Include W2s and any other income documents. Mail each year separately in different envelopes to avoid confusion at the processing center. You might face some penalties but filing ASAP will minimize them.

•Thank you! Do you know if I need to include a letter explaining why they're late?

•Yes, definitely include a brief explanation letter. This could help reduce penalties since it wasn't your fault.

Hey, before you start this process manually, check out taxr.ai - it's this new tool that can analyze your situation and tell you exactly what forms you need and how to file them correctly. It costs $1 but saves hours of research. https://taxr.ai

You should report that tax preparer to your state board of accountancy. Thats literally their ONE job 🤡

Pro tip: send everything certified mail with return receipt. Trust me on this one.
