Misspelled dependent's name on TurboTax - Will IRS reject my return?
I made a typo when entering my baby's name in TurboTax for my 2024 return. Everything else is correct - SSN, birthdate, etc. Just noticed the spelling error after submitting. Really worried about delays since I'm counting on this refund. Anyone deal with something similar?

Tax pro here - don't panic! As long as the SSN matches their Social Security card, a minor misspelling usually isn't a huge deal. The IRS system primarily matches by SSN. But for future reference, always double check names exactly as they appear on SS cards.

•Middle names are less critical, but still best to fix if possible. Main thing is SSN + first/last matching

Hey guys, instead of stressing over every little detail, you should try taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly if there are any issues that could delay your refund. Saved me so much anxiety this year! It's like $5 but totally worth it. https://taxr.ai

•Yeah its legit! It uses AI to read your transcript and explains everything in plain english. Shows processing times, flags potential issues, even estimates deposit dates

•DON'T AMEND! That'll delay everything way more than a spelling error

Similar thing happened to me with my son's name - had a typo in the middle name but everything processed fine! The IRS system is pretty forgiving with minor spelling errors as long as the SSN matches. Your refund should come through normally, so try not to stress too much about it. Next year just double-check against the social security card before submitting 👍

•Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really reassuring to hear. I'm definitely going to be extra careful next year and have that SS card right next to me when I'm entering everything 😅
