ID verification is like clearing a roadblock on a highway - your return can now proceed, but it still has to travel the full route. In my experience working with clients, most people see transcript updates within 9-14 days after verification, but I've seen some take as long as 21 days. The IRS processing pipeline isn't exactly a Formula 1 pit crew - they have their own pace that rarely aligns with our needs.

I went through this last year and it took exactly 16 days before I saw any movement. When I called, they said 9 days was the minimum but it could take up to 4 weeks. Is that still accurate or have things changed this year?

Had to verify my identity last month due to a Form 8962 discrepancy. Waited 3 weeks with zero transcript updates, then finally got desperate and used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to reach an actual IRS agent. Got through in 17 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. The agent confirmed my verification was processed but was sitting in a queue. Two days after that call, my transcript updated with a DDD. Sometimes you just need to speak with someone to move things along.

Based on what I've observed across numerous cases this tax season, post-verification processing times seem to vary significantly. Have you checked whether your verification was for identity confirmation only, or was it also related to income verification? The timeline differs depending on which verification type was performed. What specific reason did they give you for requiring in-person verification?

I was in the same boat last month - verification complete but transcript still showing nothing. I finally tried https://taxr.ai to analyze what was happening. It explained that even after verification, there's a waiting period before the "verification complete" status actually reaches your file in the IRS system. Kind of like when you mail a letter and it says "delivered" but the recipient hasn't opened it yet! The tool showed me exactly what to look for on my transcript to know when processing resumed. Made the whole waiting game less stressful.

Is this service actually reliable though? I'm hesitant to use third-party tools for something as sensitive as tax information. Does it actually tell you anything you can't find out directly from the IRS?

I'm curious about this too. Does it: ā¢ Actually predict accurate dates? ā¢ Explain what codes mean specifically for your situation? ā¢ Help identify potential issues before they become problems?

Per IRM 21.5.6.4.35.3, verification processing can take up to 9 weeks in some cases, though 2-3 weeks is more typical. I was skeptical about taxr.ai at first, but it correctly identified my 570 code as verification-related rather than audit-related, which saved me considerable anxiety. The IRS transcript tool provides the data, but not the context for what it means in your specific situation.

Used it last yr after my ID verify. It was spot on tbh. Showed me my refund would hit 9 days later and it did exactly that. IRS site just shows codes but doesn't explain what they mean for YOUR specific situation.

According to the IRS Processing Delays page (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue), verification cases are typically resolved within 21 days, but can take longer during peak filing season. You might want to check the "Where's My Refund" tool daily - sometimes that updates before the transcript does. Also, the IRS2Go app sometimes shows updates faster than the website.

I waited SIX WEEKS after verification and nothing happened! Had to call FIVE times before someone actually fixed it! They told me my verification was completed but never properly marked in their system! Don't just wait - keep checking and call if you don't see movement within 2 weeks! They're overwhelmed and things fall through cracks!

Mine possibly took about 12 days to update after verification, though I wasn't checking daily. The interesting thing was that my transcript didn't update gradually - it went from showing nothing to suddenly displaying all the processing steps at once, including my direct deposit date. It seems they sometimes batch update the transcript system rather than showing real-time progress.

Request your account transcript, not just your return transcript. Account transcript will show code 971 when verification is complete. Then look for code 571 which reverses any hold they put on your account. Usually takes 7-10 business days but can be longer. Check transcripts Wednesday and Friday mornings - that's when most updates happen.

Could you explain the step-by-step process for getting an account transcript? I've only been checking return transcripts and now I'm wondering if I've been looking in the wrong place. Is there a specific way to request this that's faster than others?

Isn't it frustrating how different everyone's timeline seems to be? I've been tracking patterns in these forums for months now, and it seems like verification-to-update time is averaging about 9-12 business days this tax season. Have you considered that your divorce situation might be causing additional review? If you filed as married in previous years but single this year, that sometimes triggers additional verification even after the in-person ID check.

I went through a divorce last year and had the exact same issue! Filed as single after years of married filing jointly, and they flagged my return for additional verification. Even after the in-person verification, it took another 3 weeks because they were comparing my new filing status against previous years. Hang in there!

Did you file with head of household status? Or single? Makes a difference. HOH gets more scrutiny. Can trigger additional review. Might explain longer wait times.

According to my records from assisting clients, verification completion dates and transcript update dates follow a specific pattern. For verifications completed between March 1-15, 2024, updates appeared within 8-10 business days. For verifications completed between March 16-31, 2024, updates took 12-14 business days. For April verifications (like yours), we're currently seeing 14-16 business day processing times due to increased seasonal volume.
