Federal Refund Status Blank While CA State Refund Shows Issued in January - Filed in February, Nothing Received

Been checking my transcript for weeks now but nothing shows up on Where's My Refund tool. Getting really frustrated cause I filed back in February and its almost May. The bars disappeared completely and now im just seeing a blank page. I decided to check the FTB (Franchise Tax Board) website directly since IRS's tool isn't working for me. When I check the FTB "Check Your Refund Status" page, it shows: Received ✓ Processing ✓ Issued ✓ It says "We authorized your refund on Monday, January 28, 2025." Then it mentions "Please allow: 10 business days to receive your refund by direct deposit, or 25 business days to receive your refund by check." There's also a note saying "If we made any adjustments to your return, we will notify you by mail." But this doesn't make sense! I filed my federal return in February 2025, but somehow the state (California) says they processed my refund back in January? And it's been way more than 10 business days for direct deposit or 25 days for a check, and I've received nothing in my account. The IRS Where's My Refund tool is completely blank, not even showing processing status, while the state system says my refund was issued months ago. Anyone else dealing with this disconnect between state and federal refund status or know what to do? Should I call the IRS? Is there another way to check my federal refund status when the online tool isn't working?

Tax pro here - when WMR isn't showing your refund status but you can see activity on your transcript, it usually means the IRS systems aren't fully synced up yet. This is super common early in the filing season. Your best bet is to focus on your transcript since it's the source of truth. Pro tip: you can use taxr.ai to analyze your transcript and get a clear picture of what's happening with your refund status, potential delays, and estimated deposit date. It's been a game changer for a lot of my clients this season.

Tax expert here - this is actually pretty common right now. The Where's My Refund tool sometimes goes blank when your return is in review or if there's a processing delay. Best thing to do is pull your actual transcript and look for specific codes.

It can be confusing! Each code means something specific about where your return is in processing.

Hey, I highly recommend using taxr.ai - it's basically an AI tool that reads your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on and when you'll likely get paid. It's $4.99 but totally worth it vs trying to figure this stuff out yourself. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Wait, I think there might be some confusion in your post. You mentioned filing your federal return in February 2025, but California shows a refund issued in January 2025 - that timeline doesn't make sense since you can't get a refund processed before you even file! Are you maybe looking at last year's CA refund status by mistake? The state and federal systems are completely separate, so your CA refund status wouldn't affect your federal refund at all. For your federal return, if Where's My Refund is blank, definitely check your actual IRS transcript - that's where you'll see the real processing status. The WMR tool glitches out all the time but your transcript will show exactly what's happening with codes and dates.

Good catch on the timeline! That definitely doesn't add up. OP might be looking at 2024 tax year info or got confused between tax years. But yeah, transcript is definitely the way to go - WMR has been super unreliable this season. I've seen so many people get accurate info from their transcripts when WMR shows nothing.
