IRS Account Balance Issues: Dropped Calls and No Way to Check - Help!

Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with my IRS account balance. I tried calling them but got disconnected. Has anyone else had trouble getting through to the IRS lately? Any tips on how to check my account balance or get in touch with a real person?

Ugh, dealing with the IRS is such a pain. I've been trying to get through for weeks now. It's like they don't want us to talk to them 🙄

Same here. I've tried calling at different times of the day, but no luck. It's so frustrating!

Have you tried checking your account balance online? The IRS website has a portal where you can view your account information. It's not perfect, but it might save you some time on hold.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that, but I'm having trouble logging in. Keeps saying my information doesn't match their records 😫

The online portal is hit or miss. I had to request a new PIN because I couldn't get in either. Took like 2 weeks to arrive in the mail tho

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The IRS should do better.

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho

Can you give more details about how it works? Is it safe to use?

Sure! You just enter your phone number on their website, choose which IRS line you want to call, and pay. Then they start calling and stay on hold. When a real person picks up, they connect you. It's legit and secure.

Pro tip: Try calling right when they open in the morning. I've had better luck getting through that way. Also, make sure you have all your docs ready before you call so you don't waste time once you finally get someone.

I feel your pain, OP. The IRS is seriously understaffed and underfunded. It's not an excuse, but it explains why it's so hard to get help. I read an article that said they're still dealing with a backlog from the pandemic. Hang in there!

Yeah, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating for us regular folks just trying to sort out our taxes 😤

Have you considered reaching out to a Taxpayer Advocate? They can sometimes help if you're having serious issues getting resolution from the IRS. It's a free service, too. Here's what you need to do: 1. Check if you qualify for their help (usually if you're facing financial hardship or the IRS systems aren't working as they should) 2. Fill out Form 911 or call their hotline 3. Provide all relevant documentation 4. Be patient - they're also pretty busy It's not a quick fix, but it might help if you're really stuck. Good luck!

Wow, I didn't even know this was an option. Thanks for the detailed info! I'll definitely look into this if I can't get through soon.

I tried the Taxpayer Advocate once. Took forever, but they did eventually help me resolve a complicated issue. It's a good last resort.
