Has anyone claimed both CTC and Additional Child Tax Credit gotten their refund yet?
Has anybody that claimed the Child Tax Credit AND the Additional Child Tax Credit gotten their refund or a direct deposit date yet? I'm sort of in a difficult position financially and was wondering about timelines. If you have possibly received yours, when did you file approximately & when did you get your date/refund? I'm trying to determine if there might be some kind of delay for those of us claiming both credits, as I've heard some rumors about this. I submitted all documentation thoroughly and double-checked everything, but I'm still a bit concerned about the waiting period.

I filed on January 29th, 2024 with both credits and received my direct deposit on February 21st. The IRS seems to be processing these returns with varied timelines. Some people who filed on February 3rd are getting their refunds before those who filed on January 25th. Have you checked your transcript? The PATH Act can delay refunds with certain credits until at least February 15th, but most are processing within 21 days after that date.

I believe this is generally correct, though I might add that in my case, I filed on February 4th with both credits and am still waiting. The Where's My Refund tool just shows the first bar, but nothing more yet. It seems like there might be some additional verification happening for certain returns with these credits.

I had a similar experience last year! Filed on January 30th, claimed both credits, and got my refund on February 26th. The PATH Act definitely holds these refunds until mid-February at minimum, but then they seem to process in batches. My transcript updated with a DDD about 5 days before the money hit my account. Such a relief when it finally came through!

I filed February 10th and got my refund March 1st. Both credits. No delays. No issues. System worked exactly as designed. 21 days from acceptance to deposit.

Last year I was in the exact same boat waiting for my CTC and Additional Child Tax Credit refund. After three weeks of silence I used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an IRS agent. Normally I would've been on hold for hours, but they got me connected in about 15 minutes. The agent confirmed my return was selected for additional review because I claimed both credits, but nothing was wrong. Got my DDD two days after that call. Sometimes just knowing what's happening makes the waiting easier.

I'm somewhat hesitant about using third-party services to contact the IRS. Did you possibly have to provide any personal information to this service? And did they maybe charge a lot for what is essentially just getting you through the phone queue faster? I'm just trying to understand if there might be other options before going this route.

The IRS utilizes a specific processing protocol for returns claiming both Child Tax Credit (CTC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). These returns are subject to the PATH Act verification procedures which can extend processing time by 2-6 weeks beyond the standard 21-day window. Additionally, returns with these dual credits often undergo systemic verification through the Dependent Database (DDb) matching program to confirm eligibility parameters. Have you checked your Account Transcript for TC 570/971 combo codes?

Thank you for explaining this so clearly. I've been wondering why my return seemed to be taking longer than some others. I checked my transcript yesterday and did notice a TC 570 code dated 03-25-2024. I guess this means I'm in that verification process you mentioned? Hoping it resolves soon.

I was totally confused about my refund status with both credits too! According to the IRS2Go app, I was still on the first bar after 4 weeks. I found this tool called taxr.ai that analyzed my transcript and explained exactly what was happening. It showed me that my return was actually in the review stage for the credits I claimed and gave me an estimated completion date based on similar cases. The IRS website just gives generic info, but taxr.ai broke down my specific codes and what they meant for MY situation.

While transcript analysis can be helpful, I should point out that per IRS Publication 1345 and Revenue Procedure 2007-40, all tax processing follows standardized timelines based on claim types. The codes on transcripts follow predictable patterns and can be interpreted without additional tools. The IRS Where's My Refund tool and transcript access provide sufficient information for most taxpayers to understand their refund status.

Tbh I'm not convinced there's any rhyme or reason to how they're processing these. Filed Feb 8th w/ both credits, still nothing. Friend filed Feb 12th, got DDD last week. Seems totally random. The WMR tool is useless - just says "still processing" for weeks. Doubt calling helps unless there's an actual problem. Might just be a waiting game for most of us.

Don't worry too much! The IRS is definitely processing returns with both credits - I just got mine yesterday! Filed on February 5th and waited exactly 31 days. It felt like forever because I really needed that money, but it did come through! The system is working, just a bit slower for some of us. Hang in there! 💕
