Filed on 2/27 - Anyone Approved Yet? Feels like waiting for a bus in the rain
Just wondering if anyone who filed around February 27th has gotten their approval yet? This whole tax season feels like standing at a bus stop in the rain - you know the bus is coming eventually, but it sure feels like forever when you're getting soaked. I'm particularly anxious this year since it's my first filing as 'head of household' after the divorce finalized in December. My refund is like the lighthouse guiding me to shore after a stormy year. Anyone else in the same boat (or bus stop, to keep my analogy going)?

I filed on February 28th, so almost the same day as you! I was checking WMR obsessively every morning at 6am for two weeks straight. Finally got my approval notice yesterday! The status bar moved to approved and I should see the deposit by next Wednesday. I almost cried when I saw it change - this is my first time filing on my own after my divorce and I was so worried I'd messed something up.

That's great news! It does seem like the IRS is working through that late February batch now. Several people in our tax group chat reported movement this week too. Did you claim any credits that might have delayed processing?

Have you tried calling the IRS to check on your status? But who has hours to waste on hold, right? I was in the same situation last week and used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an agent in about 15 minutes instead of the usual 2+ hour wait. The agent confirmed my return was in the final processing stage and would be approved within 48 hours. Sure enough, it was! Sometimes you just need that confirmation to ease your mind, especially after a major life change like divorce.

Wait, you actually got through to a real IRS person in 15 minutes? I tried calling exactly 7 times last week and waited 43 minutes on my longest attempt before giving up. How much did this service cost? Seems too good to be true honestly.

I filed on February 25th and got approved on March 22nd, so exactly 26 days later. Looking at the data from my tax groups, most people filing between February 24-28 are seeing approvals this week. There was definitely a slowdown for late February filers compared to early February ones who seemed to get processed within 14-18 days.

Did you check your tax transcript yet? It's like comparing the bus schedule to just staring at the road hoping to see headlights. Your transcript will often show movement well before WMR updates. Have you checked for any codes like 570/971 that might indicate they're reviewing something? Head of household status changes sometimes trigger additional verification compared to a simple filing status.

Based on the Transaction Code Sequence Analysis I'm seeing for February filers, it appears the IRS is processing batches of returns filed in the last week of February right now. If you're having trouble interpreting your transcript codes, I'd recommend using taxr.ai to analyze it. It helped me understand that my 570 code wasn't actually a problem but part of normal processing. The tool explained exactly what each code meant for my specific situation and predicted my DDD accurately.

Just wanna say that as a fellow HOH filer post-divorce, the wait is brutal AF! Esp when you're counting on that $$ to help get back on your feet. The system is so frustrating - they take our money instantly but make us wait forever to get refunds. Hang in there!

The IRS is processing February returns in batches. Early February filers were processed first. Mid-February next. Late February filers are being processed now. Returns with credits like EITC or CTC take longer. Head of Household status with dependents can trigger additional verification. This is normal. Most people filing 2/27 should see movement by the end of this week based on processing patterns.

Does claiming the Child Tax Credit automatically put you in a longer processing queue? I'm a newly single parent and claimed it for the first time this year.

I'm a bit confused... I thought the PATH Act delays only applied to Earned Income Credit? I didn't know Child Tax Credit could also trigger additional verification processes...

As someone who's been filing Head of Household with dependents for years, I can confirm they do sometimes verify these returns more carefully. Last year they sent me a letter requesting proof of my qualifying person. Once I sent it in, my refund was processed within 10 days. The system is designed to verify eligibility for these beneficial filing statuses.

PATH Act affects both EITC and ACTC. Mandatory hold until mid-February. Different from normal verification. IRS has separate processes for each. HOH verification happens in different department. System flags returns based on algorithms. Nothing to worry about if your info is accurate.

I've been tracking approval patterns for the past three tax seasons, and there's definitely a pattern. February 27th filers from last year saw approvals between March 21-28. In 2022, it was March 23-30. This year seems to be following the same timeline. Has your Where's My Refund status bar disappeared? That often happens right before approval.

Think of the IRS processing system like a massive water filtration plant. Your return is currently working its way through several filter stages. Have you checked if you're seeing the common 'test refund' amount of $0.00 on your account transcript? That's like seeing the first drops coming through the pipe - a sign that your real refund is about to flow through.

I just checked my transcript and I DO see that $0.00 amount from yesterday! So you're saying this means my actual refund is coming soon? I need to pay my car insurance by the 1st so this timing would be perfect!

I'm seeing similar patterns on my transcript: • Filed: 2/26 • Processing date: 3/25 • $0.00 amount appeared: 3/24 • No DDD yet Does this mean I should expect the actual DDD to show up in the next cycle?

According to IRM 21.4.1.3(7), the appearance of a zero dollar pending transaction often precedes the posting of the actual refund amount. Is there a specific cycle code associated with this test transaction that might provide additional processing timeline information?
