Filed on 1/24 but Transcript Shows No Change - Husband Filed Last Week and Gets Deposit Friday?
I e-filed exactly 73 days ago (January 24th) and my transcript shows absolutely no change since acceptance. Meanwhile, my husband filed on March 27th (just 9 days ago) and already has a direct deposit date for this Friday, April 5th. I've checked my transcript precisely every 48 hours and nothing has changed. Did I do something wrong on my filing? We have similar income sources but file separately due to investment structures. This delay is becoming extremely frustrating as I meticulously prepared everything.

First thing - did you claim any credits like EIC or Child Tax Credit? Those take longer. Second, check your transcript for any TC 570/971 codes. Third, verify your filing was actually accepted, not just submitted. Many early filers are seeing delays this year while later filers zoom through.

I had the exact same issue. Filed January 22nd, still waiting. Called IRS and they said my return was selected for "additional review" - which they claim isn't an audit but still means waiting 60-120 days. They wouldn't tell me why it was selected though.

Did you check if your return shows as "accepted" or just "received"? I was stuck in limbo for 6 weeks before realizing my return showed as received but never got accepted because my AGI from last year was entered incorrectly. Had to call and verify my identity, then resubmit. Just wondering if you might be in a similar situation?

I was in the EXACT same boat. Filed 1/27, husband filed 3/15, he got his refund last week while mine sat with no updates. I was pulling my hair out checking the IRS2Go app and transcript daily. Finally tried https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript - it showed a processing delay code I completely missed and explained exactly why mine was taking longer (had some investment income that triggered additional verification). The site predicted I'd see movement by April 15th based on similar cases. Might be worth checking your transcript with it to see if there's something you're missing too.

Hmm, not sure about using some random site w/ my tax info. How do u know it's legit? IRS website should show the same codes, no?

I've used this service before. It doesn't require: ā¢ Personal identifying information ā¢ Social security numbers ā¢ Banking details You just upload or take a screenshot of your transcript and it analyzes the codes. The difference is it explains what the codes mean specifically for YOUR situation, not just the generic definitions the IRS gives.

Wow I'm feeling so much better seeing others with the same issue! Does the taxr site tell you exactly when you'll get your refund? I'm getting so anxious checking WMR every single day with no changes!

Time is literally money when it comes to tax refunds! I was in your exact situation last year - filed early February, no movement by April. Wasted 3 DAYS trying to reach IRS (no joke - 27 calls, never got through). Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got connected to an agent in 18 minutes. Turns out there was a simple verification hold they needed to clear. Fixed it on the spot and had my refund 8 days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to get things moving! š

I tried calling the IRS myself last week. Got the dreaded "due to high call volume" message and gave up after an hour on hold. Not sure paying for a service is worth it though - they're probably just auto-dialing the same number we all have access to.

Actually, Claimyr uses a proprietary system that navigates the IRS phone tree and holds your place in line. When they reach an agent, they connect you. I've used it twice - both times got through when I couldn't on my own. Just sharing what worked for me when I was desperate.

Check if your return has a TC 152 code on your account transcript. That's a sign they've at least started processing it. Also, early filers this year (especially January) are seeing MUCH longer processing times than usual. The IRS implemented new fraud detection systems that are flagging more returns for manual review. It's not necessarily that you did anything wrong.

Based on the timing patterns I'm seeing across multiple forums, your situation fits a specific processing batch issue affecting January filers with investment income. The IRS implemented Enhanced Return Review (ERR) protocols for Tax Year 2023 that specifically target Schedule D and Form 8949 transactions for additional verification. This isn't an audit but a pre-refund compliance check. Action steps: 1. Pull your 2023 Account Transcript (not Return Transcript) 2. Look for TC 570 code (refund hold) 3. If present, expect a TC 571 release within 14-21 days 4. If no 570 code appears, your return is likely in the verification queue The system is processing March filers faster because they're using updated verification parameters established after January's backlog revealed issues.

This happened to me too! Filed 1/23 with investment income and was stuck for 10 weeks with no updates. Finally got my deposit last Thursday. The IRS never sent any letters or notifications - it just suddenly processed.

How do you check for these specific codes? I can see my transcript but it's confusing with all the different sections and dates.

One important question - did you file on January 24th or were you just accepted on that date? The IRS didn't officially open filing season until January 29th, 2024. If you filed through a third-party preparer before the official start date, your return would have been held in a queue until processing began. That could explain why your husband's more recent filing moved faster - it went directly into active processing.
