Filed 2/1, Had 570/971 Codes, Now Got 846 for 3/7! Success Timeline
Cycle 05 filer here with a successful resolution timeline. Filed 2/1, identity verified 2/14, then got hit with the dreaded 570/971 codes dated 3/10. Just checked my transcript and it updated to 846 for 3/7! Compared to last year when I had similar codes and waited nearly 8 weeks for resolution, this is much faster. The processing pattern seems more efficient than previous years based on my remote work colleagues' experiences as well. For those waiting with similar codes: the system is working, albeit slowly. Technical note: the 846 code supersedes previous hold codes regardless of the dates shown.

Those codes follow a pattern. 570 means hold placed. 971 means notice issued. 846 means refund approved. Your timeline is typical. Processing was delayed. Identity verification slowed things down. System is working correctly.

Same thing happened to me last year, lol. I was checking WMR like a crazy person every 2 hours thinking it would magically change. The best part was getting the 971 letter in the mail a week AFTER my refund was already deposited. IRS timing is... special 😂

Wait, so the 846 date is when the refund actually gets sent? I always thought the dates on transcripts were just processing dates, not actual payment dates. My state refund was completely different - showed processing for 3 weeks with no codes at all, then just appeared in my account!

Have you received your actual refund deposit yet? Or just seeing the 846 code? Sometimes there can be a delay between the code appearing and the money hitting your account. Did you verify your identity through ID.me or did you have to call in? I'm wondering because I'm in a similar situation but can't get through on the phone lines at all. I finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) after spending 3 days trying to reach someone. Got connected to an IRS agent in about 15 minutes who confirmed my 570 was just a random review and should clear soon. Saved me days of frustration and uncertainty.

I've been trying to reach the IRS for a week now. Does this Claimyr service actually work? How does it even get you through when the IRS lines are constantly busy? I've tried calling at different times of day following the step-by-step guides online but always get the "high call volume" message.

My experience was like watching a pot of water boil - the more you stare at it, the longer it seems to take! I had the exact same codes but filed on 1/29. My 570/971 was like hitting a roadblock on a highway, but then everything cleared up at once. For those still waiting, it's like being stuck in airport security - frustrating but necessary, and eventually everyone gets through.

I have the 570 code dated March 25th on my transcript right now. No 971 yet. Does that mean I should expect about 2-3 weeks before seeing movement? I'm trying to plan my finances accordingly.

Thanks for sharing this timeline. I'm always skeptical when people claim quick resolutions, but seeing the actual sequence with dates makes this much more credible. The IRS rarely moves this efficiently in my experience.

This gives me hope. Been stuck with 570 for 18 days now. Need this money for car repairs.

I tracked exactly 426 returns with code 570 this season, and 87% resolved within 21 days of the code appearing. Your timeline matches the average perfectly. So frustrating that the IRS doesn't just explain this clearly! For anyone confused by their transcript, I've been using https://taxr.ai to decode mine. It explained that my 570 was just a processing delay, not an audit, and predicted my release date within 2 days of actual. Saved me from calling the IRS 15 times.

Did you receive any letters in the mail between February 14th and today? I'm asking because I'm in a similar situation with verification on February 17th, then 570/971 codes appearing on March 12th, but haven't received any physical mail yet. Wondering if I should be looking for something specific.

Just FYI for everyone - the 846 date isn't always exactly when u get paid. Sometimes it's a day early, sometimes a day or two later. Depends on ur bank. If ur using a tax prep service that takes fees from ur refund, might take an extra day to process thru their bank first. Check WMR for the most accurate DD date. Congrats on getting thru the process!
