E-file Accepted March 7th - Still One Bar on WMR - Dependent Claims - When Will Transcript Update?
Hello everyone, I am trying to understand the timeline for my tax refund and would appreciate any insights. Here is my situation step by step: 1. My return was accepted by IRS on March 7th, 2024 2. I am still seeing only one bar on the Where's My Refund tool 3. I claimed dependents on my return 4. I checked my transcript but there is no update yet I am wondering if there is a specific timeframe when the transcript typically updates? Will it be after the 15th? In my home country, the process works differently, so I am trying to understand how it works here. If anyone has experienced similar timeline with dependent claims, please share your experience. We can figure this out together!

I think... your timeline is actually fairly normal, especially since you claimed dependents. The IRS might be taking a bit longer to process returns with dependent claims this year. In my experience, transcripts often update on Thursday nights/Friday mornings, but there's no guarantee. I would suggest perhaps waiting until at least the 21-day mark before becoming too concerned, as that's typically when the IRS suggests you follow up if you haven't received your refund.

Wait, I'm confused about the transcript update cycle. Is there a specific algorithm the IRS uses to determine when transcripts update? I've heard about the weekly versus daily processing cycles but don't fully understand the technical aspects of how returns move through the system.

Last year my transcript didn't update for 3 weeks after acceptance, then suddenly showed a DDD. The year before that it updated within 10 days. Same situation both years with dependent claims. The processing seems completely random to me based on my experiences.

I went through this last month. Had dependents too. Got accepted February 3rd and didn't see any movement until March 1st. Almost a month! And nobody could tell me why. Just had to wait it out.

This seems similar to what happened with my brother-in-law's return. He filed on February 28th with dependent claims and saw his transcript update on March 18th - so about 18-19 days later. If your pattern follows his, you might see movement around March 25-26th. Compared to my return with no dependents (updated in 9 days), and my neighbor's with EITC (took nearly 5 weeks), yours is probably somewhere in the middle of the processing timeline. The IRS systems seem to batch process certain types of returns, especially those with credits and dependents.

Did your brother-in-law receive any correspondence from the IRS during that waiting period? I'm wondering if there's any way to know if they're actually reviewing something specific or if it's just sitting in a queue. 😂 I've prepared everything so meticulously that waiting is the hardest part!

Does having more dependents make it slower? I claimed three. Maybe that's why mine is taking forever.

My experience this year with dependent claims: • Filed: February 12 • Accepted: February 13 • WMR one bar: Until March 2 • Transcript updated: March 3 • Refund deposited: March 8 I'm slightly worried because last year was much faster. Not sure why the extra scrutiny this year.

I filed February 2nd with two dependents and was stuck on one bar for almost 5 weeks. Transcript finally updated March 9th and got my refund March 14th. No explanation for the delay. I needed that money weeks ago for car repairs. The waiting is the worst part, especially when you need the cash now.

Have you considered how much time you might save by just getting through to an IRS agent directly? I was in a similar situation last year - one bar for weeks, claimed dependents, and couldn't get any information. Tried calling the regular IRS number but couldn't get through after multiple attempts. Finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) to connect with an IRS agent. Isn't it worth the small fee to potentially save hours of redial attempts? The agent confirmed my return was still processing normally but gave me an estimated completion date, which gave me peace of mind. Sometimes just knowing what's happening makes the wait easier.

Oh my goodness, I went through EXACTLY this last month! The transcript updates typically happen Thursday night/Friday morning for most people. Since you claimed dependents, you're likely on a slightly longer processing timeline. I was so frustrated waiting, but my transcript finally updated 17 days after acceptance! Here's what happened with mine: - Return accepted: February 11th - One bar on WMR until March 1st - Transcript updated March 1st with DDD of March 6th - Refund received March 6th The PATH Act can delay refunds with certain credits, but even regular dependent claims seem to take longer these days. I'd say give it until at least March 21st (which would be 21 days) before getting too worried!

I might be able to provide some insight based on my experience this filing season. My return with two dependent children was accepted on February 22nd, and I observed the following timeline: - Acceptance date: Feb 22 - WMR showed one bar until: March 8 (approximately 14 days) - Transcript updated: March 9 - Refund deposited: March 14 It seems that, generally speaking, returns with dependents may take somewhere between 14-21 days to process in most cases, though there are certainly exceptions. Your transcript will likely update before the WMR tool shows any change, so checking that might give you earlier notification.
