E-Filed on January 30th with 1 Dependent - Still No Transcript Codes
Hey tax friends! I e-filed exactly 23 days ago (January 30th) and my return was accepted within 45 minutes. Claimed 1 dependent and I'm still seeing absolutely nothing on my transcript - no codes at all, just blank. I had to amend some paperwork from my side gig last year which delayed things, so I made sure to file early this time. My refund is exactly $3,247 which I've already mentally allocated for some car repairs lol. Anybody else having this transcript issue with a dependent claim? š¤

This is actually fairly common right now... I'm seeing many similar cases in my practice. The IRS is processing returns in batches, and there can sometimes be a delay between acceptance and transcript updates. It's possible that your return is in a processing queue, especially with a dependent claim which might trigger additional verification steps. I wouldn't be too concerned yet, though I understand it's frustrating when you're waiting for funds.

Thank you for this explanation. I'm in a similar situation with my Cycle Code still not appearing on my transcript. Getting really concerned as I have some urgent bills coming due that I was counting on this refund for. Do you know if having a dependent automatically triggers these additional verifications?

Quick question. Does this apply to all dependent claims? Or just certain credits? My understanding is EIC triggers more scrutiny. Child Tax Credit less so. Important distinction for processing timelines.

I filed on Jan 28th with two dependents and was stuck in the same boat until yesterday! š The funny thing is I was checking my transcript religiously every morning at 6am (coffee in hand, obviously) and nothing for weeks. Then boom - suddenly yesterday I had a full transcript with DDD for next Wednesday. So hang in there! Sometimes the IRS systems are like my teenager - completely ignoring you until they suddenly remember something important.

I'm seeing this a lot more this year compared to last year. My sister filed on Feb 1st with one dependent and her transcript updated after 18 days. My coworker filed Jan 25th with two dependents and still has nothing showing. I filed Feb 5th with no dependents and my transcript updated in 10 days. I'm starting to worry this is related to dependent verification... seems like returns with dependents are taking longer across the board.

Last year I had the exact same issue - filed January 29th, one dependent, and my transcript was empty for almost 5 weeks! I finally broke down and called the IRS. Spent 3 days trying to get through, constantly redialing that awful phone tree. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. Turns out they needed to verify my dependent info but never sent a letter. The agent pushed it through while I was on the phone and I had my refund a week later. Might be worth the call if you're still seeing nothing by next week.

Oh no, this happened to me last year and I'm still dealing with the fallout! š« My transcript stayed blank for 6 weeks, then suddenly showed a review code. Turns out someone had fraudulently claimed my child on another return! The IRS froze both returns while investigating. It took MONTHS to resolve and I had to submit documentation proving my child lived with me. I'm not saying this is happening to you, but if you don't see movement soon, definitely be proactive in checking if there's an identity verification or dependent verification issue.

Thx for sharing this cautionary tale. Had similar probs last yr. My ex tried claiming our kid even tho custody agreement clearly gives me tax rights. IRS finally sorted it but took 4+ months! Now I keep all docs ready - school records, medical bills, custody papers, etc. Saved me tons of time this yr when they asked for verification again.

This is actually more common than people realize. I've seen this play out multiple times in my extended family: ā¢ Ex-spouse claims child inappropriately ā¢ Two separated parents both claim same child ā¢ Grandparent claims child without parent's knowledge Best protection is filing early and keeping documentation ready. Stay calm though - most blank transcripts are just processing delays.

According to Internal Revenue Code Section 6402(a) and Treasury Regulation 301.6402-1, the IRS has up to 45 days from the filing deadline (or from your filing date if after deadline) to process your return before they're required to pay interest. That's why many returns with dependents are being processed in batches closer to that 45-day mark. The PATH Act also requires additional verification for certain credits. Most transcripts are updating within 21-35 days this filing season.

Have you checked your Return Transcript or just your Account Transcript? Sometimes the Account Transcript stays empty while the Return Transcript shows processing. And have you verified your identity through ID.me yet? Could there be any reason your return might need manual review - perhaps a mismatch between your reported income and what employers submitted on W-2s or 1099s?

Just wanted to share some good news that might give you hope! I was in exactly your situation (filed Jan 31, one dependent) and my transcript was completely empty until yesterday. I checked the IRS2Go app and suddenly had a deposit date. When I checked the transcript online, it had fully updated with all processing codes at once. According to the IRS website processing tracker (https://www.irs.gov/refunds) they're currently working on returns received around Jan 29-31, so you should see movement very soon!
