Do IRS Direct Deposits Have a Cutoff Time? CashApp Shows Nothing Yet
I am wondering if maybe the IRS has a time limit for deposits on the scheduled day? My transcript shows today as deposit date, but still nothing in my CashApp account. I have been checking every hour. Is it possible they will still deposit later today, or if it does not come by certain time, it means delay? I am trying to be patient but this refund is very important for me.

A few things to know about IRS deposits: • IRS initiates deposits in batches throughout the day • Most financial institutions receive deposits between 12am-9am • CashApp sometimes processes deposits differently than traditional banks • Some users report CashApp deposits arriving as late as 8pm • The IRS doesn't have a strict "cutoff time" - they send the information to banks who then process it Have you checked if your transcript shows code 846 with today's date?

According to IRS Publication 5069, the Treasury Department's Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) is responsible for issuing IRS refunds through either direct deposit or paper checks. Once the IRS approves your refund, it's out of their hands. In my experience, I've received deposits as late as 9:30pm, especially with non-traditional banking platforms like CashApp or Chime. The deposit timing largely depends on when your financial institution processes incoming ACH transfers.

I was in exactly the same situation last year with CashApp. My transcript showed April 12th as my deposit date, but nothing appeared until 5:47pm that day. I was checking literally every 15 minutes! What helped me was using https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript - it showed me exactly what was happening with my refund and explained that the 846 code means it's been released but can take up to 24 hours to appear in your account. It gave me peace of mind knowing the exact status instead of wondering if something went wrong.

CashApp deposits from the IRS can arrive anytime during the business day. There's no specific cutoff time. The IRS sends payment files to the Treasury, who then forwards them to financial institutions. Your bank or CashApp processes these when they receive them. If your transcript shows today's date with code 846, your money is on the way. Most people see deposits by early afternoon, but it can take until evening in some cases.

I just went through this exact situation! My deposit date was March 15th and I was checking my CashApp account literally every 20 minutes. Nothing all morning, nothing after lunch, then suddenly at 4:26pm it appeared! I was so relieved. The waiting is the worst part, especially when you're counting on that money. Did your transcript specifically show code 846 for today? That's the confirmation that it's actually being sent today.

Thanks for sharing this! It's helpful to know real experiences with CashApp timing. I've been wondering if I should use CashApp for my refund next year.

Was there any notification from CashApp when it arrived? I have notifications turned on but wondering if I should just keep refreshing the app instead.

So it actually came the same day that was on your transcript? I'm hoping mine comes today too, but getting worried since it's already afternoon...

Doesn't CashApp sometimes release funds early? Or is that only for certain types of deposits? I wonder why the IRS deposits seem to take the full day to process when other deposits show up immediately?

When dealing with IRS deposits to CashApp, follow these steps to resolve delays: 1. First, verify your transcript shows code 846 with today's date 2. Check that your CashApp account details match what you provided on your tax return 3. Wait until end of business day (around 8pm) before assuming there's a problem 4. If nothing arrives by tomorrow, contact the IRS directly This is where I found Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) incredibly useful. Trying to reach an IRS agent directly was impossible - I spent 3 days trying. Claimyr got me through to an agent in 15 minutes who confirmed my deposit was sent but had an issue with my account number. Fixed it right away and got my deposit the next day.

Did you actually have to pay for this service? I'm already stressed about money which is why I'm waiting on my refund in the first place. Not sure I want to spend more just to find out where my money is...

The Treasury Financial Manual (I TFM 4A-2000) outlines that ACH transactions initiated by federal agencies like the IRS follow the Nacha Operating Rules. These transactions can be processed throughout the business day, with no specific "cutoff time" for when they must be completed. Non-traditional financial platforms like CashApp operate on different posting schedules than traditional banks, often processing incoming ACH transfers in batches rather than continuously. The Federal Reserve's settlement windows occur at multiple times throughout the day, with the final window closing at approximately 6:30 PM Eastern Time.

This is spot on. Last year my refund hit my CashApp at 6:45pm exactly. The bank I used previously always deposited IRS refunds around 3am, but CashApp seems to process them later in the day. I've used CashApp for two years now and both times my refund came in the evening hours.

Thanks for explaining the technical details! Makes me feel better knowing there's actual systems and processes at work rather than just random timing.
