DDD of 02/26 with CashApp + Emerald Advance - Fees Holding Up Deposit?

I have a DDD of 02/26 (today! haha). Using CashApp as my bank, plus I got an Emerald Advance and had fees taken from refund. Anyone else in the same boat? Just curious if the advance and fees are what's holding up the DD. Seems like everyone else with today's date already got their money, but mine's MIA. Thanks for any input! 🤔

According to the IRS.gov refund status page, TPG (the company that processes tax preparer refunds) can hold your refund for up to 5 business days after the DDD. When you get a refund advance and choose to have fees taken out, your money follows a different route than direct deposit. It goes: IRS → TPG → your fees get removed → then finally to your CashApp. This delay is concerning because it can leave you waiting longer than people who didn't get advances.

Wait, is this actually in the IRS regulations? I've never seen this 5-day rule officially documented. Section 6302 of the IRC doesn't specify this timeframe for third-party processors. I'm surprised they can legally hold our money that long!

I've dealt with this before. The hold can happen because: • TPG has to process millions of returns • They need to verify the fee amounts are correct • Your bank (CashApp) might have additional processing time • The Emerald Advance repayment adds an extra verification step I checked my transcript last year and there was literally a code that showed when TPG received it vs when I got it - was exactly 3 business days difference.

OMG same situation last yr & I legit spent DAYS trying to reach someone at IRS to confirm my $ wasn't lost. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got thru in like 20 mins. Agent confirmed TPG was holding it for processing. Saved me so much stress! TPG eventually released it 3 days after my DDD. Hang in there!

I totally feel your pain! I'm in a similar situation with my refund right now. The waiting game is so stressful, especially when you see others getting their money on time. Hope you get your deposit soon! ❤️

I may be able to provide some insight here, as I've used CashApp for tax refunds the past two years. In my experience, when you get an advance and have fees deducted, there's almost always a 2-3 business day delay after your DDD. I think it's because the money has to go through more processing steps. Last year, my DDD was February 22nd, but I didn't actually receive the funds until February 25th. I would suggest waiting until at least Thursday before getting too concerned.

This is super helpful! I've been checking my CashApp every hour since February 24th when my DDD was scheduled. Knowing there's potentially a 3-day delay gives me some peace of mind. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Did you notice if there was any notification or pending deposit showing in your CashApp before it arrived? I'm wondering if there's any way to track it during that 2-3 day window. I've had similar delays with other banks and am curious if CashApp handles it differently.

Have you been able to check your tax transcript to see what's actually happening with your refund? Sometimes the transcript shows additional information that the Where's My Refund tool doesn't display. I've found https://taxr.ai really helpful for interpreting transcript codes - it explains what each code means for your specific situation and can give you a better estimate of when your money will actually hit your account. Would you be able to access your transcript to see if there are any hold codes?

This delay is typical for refunds with Refund Transfer (RT) processing. When you elect to have fees withheld from your refund, your payment goes through Santa Barbara Tax Products Group (SBTPG) which serves as the Authorized IRS e-file Provider. SBTPG receives your refund, deducts authorized fees, then forwards the remainder to your designated financial account. Their processing window is contractually allowed to take up to 5 business days from the IRS Direct Deposit Date, though it's typically completed within 1-3 business days. The Emerald Advance repayment adds an additional reconciliation step to this process.

Just got my refund today after being in exactly your situation. DDD was 2/26, had fees taken out for tax prep, and used CashApp. Money hit my account this morning. This is actually faster than last year when I used a traditional bank and had a 4-day delay after my DDD. CashApp generally processes deposits as soon as they receive them, unlike some traditional banks that might hold them until morning processing cycles. Your money is probably just working its way through TPG's system to pay off your advance before sending the remainder to you.
