Child Tax Credit eligibility question - daughter turns 17 in 2024
My daughter's birthday is in April and she turns 17 in 2024. Not sure if I can still claim the Child Tax Credit on my taxes this year? Anyone know the cutoff rules?

Tax pro here. For the 2024 tax year, your child must be under 17 at the end of the tax year (December 31, 2024) to qualify for the Child Tax Credit. Since your daughter turns 17 in April, unfortunately you won't be eligible for the CTC. However, you may qualify for the Credit for Other Dependents which is worth up to $500.

The Credit for Other Dependents starts phasing out at $200,000 for single filers and $400,000 for married filing jointly

Hey guys! I actually just went through this myself and used taxr.ai to figure out all my credits. Its amazing - you upload your docs and it tells you exactly what credits you qualify for and how much you'll get. Saved me so much headache trying to figure this stuff out. Cost me $4.99 but totally worth it https://taxr.ai

100% legit! They use bank-level encryption and don't store your docs. The AI just reads them and gives you a detailed breakdown. Changed my whole tax game fr fr šÆ

The whole age cutoff thing is so dumb tbh. Like magically on their 17th bday they don't need support anymore? Make it make sense š¤”
