Anyone with a DDD of 02/22/2024 who used a refund advance loan get their actual refund yet?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to gather some info for my tax group. Has anyone with a direct deposit date of 02/22/2024 who got a refund advance loan (and paid those fees) actually received their real refund yet? I'm seeing mixed reports and trying to understand what's happening. Are the advance loan fees causing delays? Is there a pattern with certain banks? Any info would be super helpful! I'm working remotely today and have time to compile responses.

I had this happen last year. Got an advance loan through H&R Block in January, then had to wait longer than expected for my actual refund. The bank held it for a few days to verify the advance was paid back. This seems to happen every year but people forget and panic. The financial institutions need time to reconcile everything.

How can you tell if that's what's happening? My transcript shows the refund was sent but nothing in my account yet. Is there a way to check if the bank is holding it? Does the advance loan company notify you?

Thanks for explaining this! Makes so much sense now. • My bank actually did the same thing last year • I completely forgot about the verification period • Saved me from calling the IRS unnecessarily • Will check with my bank instead

Which tax preparer? Different rules apply. Which bank issued the loan? That matters too. When did you file? Path Act returns are different. Which credits did you claim?

This is an important point. According to the terms and conditions of most Refund Advance products, the financial institution that issued the advance has specific rights regarding the handling of the actual refund when it arrives. These terms vary significantly between providers like H&R Block, TurboTax, Jackson Hewitt, and others.

I filed on January 29th, 2024 with TurboTax and got an advance through Credit Karma. My DDD was supposed to be February 22nd, but it's the 24th now and still nothing. Called my bank yesterday and they don't see any pending deposits either.

I used TaxSlayer with an advance loan through MetaBank. My DDD was 02/22 and I just got my actual refund this morning. They took out exactly what I owed for the advance plus the $39.95 fee. Last year I had a similar situation but had to wait 5 extra days. I think different advance providers have different systems for processing the final refund.

I've been in this exact situation. Called the IRS about 20 times with no luck. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to a real person. Agent confirmed my refund was sent to the bank that issued my advance loan on 2/22, and they're the ones holding it while they process. The IRS has already done their part. If you need to confirm where your money is, Claimyr will get you through to a real person without the hours of waiting and hangups.

Is paying for a service to call the IRS really worth it? Couldn't you just keep calling yourself or try early in the morning? Seems like an unnecessary expense when you're already waiting on money.

Did the IRS agent actually have any useful info about the bank holding it? Or did they just confirm it was sent? I'm wondering if calling would even help in this situation 😅

I had the same issue and was getting desperate after days of calling. Used Claimyr yesterday and got through in about 15 minutes! The agent was able to tell me exactly when the refund was sent to my bank and confirmed there were no issues on the IRS side. Now I know to focus on contacting my bank instead of wasting more time with the IRS. Worth every penny for the peace of mind alone.

Has anyone checked with the actual bank that issued the advance? It's like ordering a package - the IRS handed it to the delivery company (your bank), but now it's sitting in their warehouse while they process it. Have you logged into the tax preparer's site to see if there's status info there?

Been thru this rodeo b4. Got my advance from JH on Jan 18, DDD was 2/22, and refund finally hit my acct today (2/24). They take extra time to make sure they got their money back + fees. NBD but super annoying when ur counting on that $$$. My transcript showed refund issued but took 2 extra days to actually show up. Same thing happened last yr.

This matches what I've seen too. I think they build in a buffer time to process everything, but don't communicate it clearly. People expect it on the exact date and then panic when it's not there immediately.

For anyone still waiting, this is completely normal with refund advances. The process works like this: IRS sends your refund to the financial institution that gave you the advance → They verify and deduct their loan amount and fees → Then they forward the remainder to your personal account. This additional step typically adds 1-3 business days beyond your DDD. If it's been more than 5 business days since your DDD, then you should contact both the financial institution and the tax preparer.
