Anyone denied the 5-day advance with TurboTax receive their refund email yet?
So I was one of the unlucky ones who didn't qualify for TurboTax's 5-day early refund advance this year. 😭 Just wondering if anyone else in the same boat has started getting those magical "your refund is on the way" emails yet? I'm checking my inbox like a kid waiting for Christmas morning over here! My estimated deposit date is supposedly next week, but you know how that goes... #RefundAnxiety #SelfEmployedProblems

I was in the same situation last year with the TurboTax advance. It's actually fairly common to be denied for their advance - they use pretty strict criteria compared to what the IRS actually uses for approving your refund. In my experience, the advance denial doesn't impact your actual refund timeline at all. If your WMR status shows "approved" you should still receive the standard IRS refund email about 24-48 hours before deposit, just like everyone else who didn't apply for the advance.

Do you perhaps know what criteria TurboTax might be using? I'm wondering if it's possibly related to credit scores or perhaps something in the tax return itself that triggers their rejection?

Just to clarify the timeline for those following along: 1. File taxes through TurboTax 2. Apply for 5-day advance 3. Potentially get denied 4. Continue with normal IRS processing 5. Receive normal refund email when approved 6. Get direct deposit 1-2 days after email Is that accurate?

I experienced this exact scenario with my 1099-NEC income last filing period. The TurboTax algorithm flagged my return as "higher complexity" due to Schedule C deductions and home office calculations, which automatically disqualified me from their advance program. The ironic part was that my actual IRS processing was completed in 9 days - which would have been faster than even waiting for their advance!

I'm quite impressed with how accurate this information is. I was denied the advance but received my refund exactly on schedule last year. The TurboTax advance seems more like a marketing tool than a truly useful service for most filers.

I've been tracking this issue across several forums, and here's what I'm seeing: • Most people denied for the TT advance are still getting normal processing times • The advance denial emails typically go out 24-48 hours after filing • Regular refund notification emails are coming 1-3 days before deposits • Self-employed filers seem to get denied at higher rates • The current batch of refund emails started going out yesterday for people with DD dates of 3/20-3/22 Check your transcript if you can access it - that's usually more accurate than WMR for timing.

Thanks for compiling this information! Really helpful to see the patterns across different filers. I'll definitely be checking my transcript instead of obsessively refreshing WMR.

I got denied too and was starting to worry something was wrong with my return. 😅 Good to know it's probably just their weird algorithm and not a red flag about my taxes!

This is super helpful! I didn't realize they were sending out a batch of emails right now. *frantically checks spam folder*

Happy to help! The IRS processing seems to be moving pretty efficiently this year compared to the last few tax seasons.

When my advance was denied, I was convinced something was wrong with my return. Used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript when it finally appeared, and it showed everything was actually processing normally. The tool explained all those confusing transcript codes and showed my refund was just going through standard processing steps. Gave me an accurate DD prediction too, which helped me stop obsessively checking WMR. Has anyone else tried using transcript analysis tools instead of just waiting for emails?

FYI - There's actually a specific Refund Status Notification System (RSNS) that generates those emails. The RSNS operates independently from the Refund Processing Pipeline (RPP), so there can be a lag between actual approval and email notification. I've seen cases where the Direct Deposit arrives before the email notification. For TurboTax filers specifically, check both your primary email and the one associated with your TurboTax account, as notifications can sometimes be sent to either one.

I was denied too. Called IRS directly. Waited three hours. Got disconnected. Tried again. Same result. Used Claimyr instead. Got through in 15 minutes. Agent confirmed my return was fine. No flags. Just normal processing. Advance denial wasn't on their end. Just TurboTax being picky. Worth the fee to stop worrying. https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Three HOURS?? And then got disconnected? That sounds absolutely maddening. Was Claimyr really able to get you through that quickly during peak tax season? I've been hesitant to try paid services.

Tbh the whole TT advance thing is kinda a mess this yr. Lots of peeps getting denied for no clear reason. From what I've seen in the FB groups, ppl who filed around the same time are getting their normal refunds regardless of whether they got approved for the advance or not. IRS is moving pretty quick for most folks - way better than last yr's disaster. FWIW, my friend who got denied the advance actually got her refund BEFORE her friend who was approved for the advance lol. The system makes zero sense sometimes.

I experienced exactly this! My spouse and I filed identical returns (married filing separately due to student loan considerations) - I was approved for the advance, they were denied. Yet somehow their regular refund processed and deposited a full 4 days before mine did. The whole advance system seems completely arbitrary.

Appreciate this insight! Makes me feel better about being denied. Maybe I'll still get lucky with processing speed.

Has anyone actually figured out what criteria they use? Or is it just random?
