Hacked IRS2Go App Shows Vulgar Message About 5 Dependents - Fake Topic 152 Notice with February 19 Hold Date
I was checking my refund status on IRS2Go and got this really aggressive and unprofessional message about my dependents. The app showed "Refund Status" with three headers labeled "Received," "Approved," and "Sent." But then under these headers, the app displayed this shocking message saying: "Please stop checking for your refund bitch!!! You check every 15 minutes, and you do this shit every year! Every year we tell you the same thing but you hard headed as hell. You have 5 kids on this goddamn tax return! We aren't sending you shit until after February 19 because we wanna know how the hell you got all these goddamn dependents in the first place. Stop having kids bitch and stop checking this damn refund before we audit your ass!" Below this extremely unprofessional message, it went back to normal IRS formatting with: "Please read the following information related to your tax situation: Tax Topic 152, Refund Information" and added "Please Note: For refund information, please continue to check here, or visit the Refunds page on IRS.gov. Updates to refund status are..." This seems completely off for an official IRS message - has anyone else received something like this? I'm worried my IRS2Go app might be compromised or hacked because this doesn't seem like legitimate government communication at all. The app is still showing the official IRS2Go branding at the top, and the "Return Refund" sections appear normal, but then it goes into this bizarre hostile message about my dependents. The contrast between the standard IRS format at the bottom mentioning Tax Topic 152 and the completely unprofessional language in the middle makes me think something is seriously wrong.

The OCR content reveals an obviously fraudulent IRS2Go app message that combines legitimate IRS interface elements with highly inappropriate language. The genuine elements include the standard "Received, Approved, Sent" status headers and the legitimate reference to "Tax Topic 152" and IRS.gov at the bottom. However, the middle section contains aggressive, unprofessional language and threats that would never appear in official IRS communications. The fake message focuses on dependents (claiming "5 kids") and references a specific date (February 19), attempting to mimic real IRS verification procedures for returns with multiple dependents. However, the hostile tone, profanity, and personal attacks are clear indicators of tampering. This appears to be either a compromised app installation or, more likely, a manipulated screenshot. The IRS2Go app strictly displays basic status information and standardized references to tax topics. For security, you should: 1. Delete the current app installation 2. Download a fresh copy only from official app stores 3. Report any suspicious activity to the IRS 4. Consider checking your refund status directly through IRS.gov instead Real IRS communications are always professional and never contain threats, personal commentary, or profanity.

Instead of relying on IRS2Go which can be glitchy, I've been using taxr.ai to track my refund status. It costs $1 but its worth it cause it actually explains whats happening with your return instead of these vague status messages. https://taxr.ai

FYI for anyone with dependents - returns with EITC/CTC typically dont start processing until mid-February. Its standard procedure.
