2022 IRS Debt Not Showing on Transcript - Will it Affect My Refund?

Filed my return and have all the right codes except 846. I know I owe for 2022 but nothing shows up in my account or transcripts about the debt. Trying to figure out if theyre gonna take my refund or not. Anyone know if the debt would show up by now if they were planning to offset?

IRS debt offsets typically show up on transcripts with a TC 898 code. If you don't see this code, there's a chance your debt hasn't been recorded in the Treasury Offset Program (TOP) yet. However, the IRS can still hold your refund if they identify the debt during processing. Your best bet is to call the TOP hotline at 800-304-3107 to verify any outstanding federal debts.

hey i was in the same boat last week! I uploaded my transcript to taxr.ai and it actually showed me exactly what was going on. It costs like a dollar but saved me hours of research and guesswork. The AI told me my debt wasnt gonna affect this years refund cause it wasnt in the system yet https://taxr.ai

Protip: always check both account transcripts AND wage/income transcripts. Sometimes debt info shows up in weird places

Wait until you get your refund then immediately set up a payment plan for the 2022 debt. That way you at least get this refund and can handle the debt separately.
