DEO says 'Employ Florida Marketplace' registration required after benefits exhausted - resume builder confusing me

Just got the notification that my regular unemployment benefits are exhausted (not surprising after 12 weeks). Now DEO is telling me I need to register with 'Workforce Services via Employ Florida Marketplace' to continue receiving anything? There's this whole resume builder thing and like 5-6 steps I apparently need to complete. I'm honestly confused if this is normal or if I'm doing something wrong. I already filled out all the re-registration questions on the CONNECT site, but this Employ Florida stuff seems like a whole separate process. Has anyone gone through this transition recently? Do I really need to build this detailed resume on their system to keep getting benefits? The instructions aren't super clear about what happens if I don't complete all these steps.

Yes, this is 100% normal and required. When your regular UI benefits exhaust, you need to complete the Employ Florida registration to qualify for extended benefits. The resume builder is mandatory - they use it to match you with potential jobs in your area. Make sure you complete ALL the steps including: 1. Basic registration 2. Resume upload/builder (don't skip any sections) 3. Job preference settings 4. Background information 5. Skills assessment If you don't finish the entire process, your benefits can be put on hold. DEO cross-checks with Employ Florida to verify completion.

Thanks for confirming! I wasn't sure if I was misunderstanding something. So basically this is Florida's way of making sure I'm actively looking for work? The resume builder seems so detailed compared to most job sites I use. Do they actually send this to employers or is it just hoops to jump through?

THEY MAKE IT WAY MORE COMPLICATED THAN IT NEEDS TO BE!!! I went through this last month and the stupid employ florida site kept timing out while I was building my resume. Lost my work THREE TIMES!! Then my benefits got delayed because the system didn't show I completed everything even though I DID. The whole thing is designed to frustrate people into giving up. Make sure you SCREENSHOT every completed page as proof!!!

I can help with this. The Employ Florida Marketplace registration is required when transitioning to extended benefits after your regular unemployment is exhausted. The resume builder might seem excessive, but it's how the state tracks your work search activities and matches you with potential employers. A few tips that helped me: - Use Chrome browser (it works better than others) - Complete the background info section first, then the resume - Save after completing EACH section (it times out after 20 mins) - Upload an existing resume if you have one, then edit it - Make sure to verify your email in their system Once you complete this, your benefits should continue without interruption as long as you meet other requirements like weekly work searches (5 per week in Florida).

Thank you for the detailed breakdown! I'll definitely use Chrome and save frequently. Do you know how long after completion until the benefits start again? I'm a bit worried about a gap.

i did this back in january and it was super annoying but only took like an hour. just put whatever in the resume builder they dont actually check it that carefully lol. the important part is completing all the steps so the computer knows youre done. my benefits continued the next week no problem

I'd be careful with this approach. While it's true they don't manually review every resume, they do periodically audit accounts, especially if you get matched with jobs and don't apply. It's best to be accurate with your information even if it takes longer to complete.

I had to do the Employ Florida registration last month and it was SO FRUSTRATING. I kept completing all the steps but my DEO account still showed I hadn't fulfilled the requirement. Spent HOURS trying to reach someone at DEO with no luck - constant busy signals and disconnects. Finally I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a live agent and they fixed it on the spot. The agent said there was a sync issue between the systems that happens pretty often. They have a demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj Saved me weeks of waiting and stress. Just make sure you have your Employ Florida confirmation and DEO claim info ready when you call.

question - does anybody know if the 5 work search requirements per week change after you transition to the extended benefits? or stays the same? i'm about to exhaust my regular benefits too and trying to prepare

The work search requirement remains at 5 activities per week for extended benefits in Florida. However, you may notice they monitor the activities more closely during extended benefits, so be sure to keep detailed records of all your job search efforts.

Seems like site stability is a common issue! I'll plan to do it when I have plenty of time and patience.

One more thing to be aware of - after you complete the Employ Florida registration, you'll need to log in regularly (at least once every two weeks) to maintain your active status. I've seen people lose benefits because they thought it was a one-time registration and then their account went inactive. Also, Employ Florida will sometimes send you job matches via email. While you're not obligated to apply to every one, completely ignoring all of them can trigger a review of your account. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks for this additional info! I had no idea I'd need to keep logging in regularly. This whole system seems designed to be as complicated as possible... I appreciate everyone's help navigating it.

I went through this exact same process about 6 months ago and it was definitely confusing at first! The Employ Florida registration is mandatory when your regular benefits exhaust - it's basically Florida's way of transitioning you to their workforce development system. A few things that helped me get through it smoothly: - Set aside 2-3 hours when you won't be interrupted (better to have extra time than rush) - Have your work history dates and details ready before you start - The skills assessment section takes longer than you'd think - be thorough - Don't worry too much about making the resume "perfect" - you can always edit it later The good news is once you complete it, your extended benefits should kick in without much delay. Just make sure to check both your CONNECT account AND your Employ Florida account regularly to stay compliant with all requirements. The two systems don't always communicate perfectly, so staying on top of both is important. Good luck with the process!

This is really helpful, thank you! I'm glad to hear from someone who went through it recently. The 2-3 hour timeframe is good to know - I was hoping it would be quicker but sounds like being thorough is worth it. Did you notice any difference in how the extended benefits worked compared to regular UI? Like are the payment amounts the same or do they change anything else about the process?

I'm currently going through this transition too and found this thread super helpful! One thing I'd add is to make sure you have a reliable internet connection when doing the Employ Florida registration. I tried to do it on my phone using mobile data and it kept timing out during the resume upload section. Also, if you're like me and haven't updated your resume in a while, it might be worth quickly refreshing it in a Word doc first before starting the online process. That way you're not trying to remember dates and job responsibilities while the system is potentially timing out on you. Has anyone had experience with how quickly they actually match you with job opportunities through their system? I'm curious if it's actually useful for finding work or just bureaucratic requirements.

Great point about having a stable internet connection! I learned that the hard way too. As for the job matching, from what I've experienced, it's a mixed bag. The system does send you job alerts based on your resume and preferences, but the quality varies a lot. Some matches are actually pretty relevant to my background, while others seem completely random. I've applied to a few through their system but haven't gotten any interviews from those specific matches yet. The main thing is it counts toward your work search requirements, so even if the matches aren't perfect, it helps you stay compliant while you're also doing your own job searching on other sites.

I just completed this process last week and wanted to share a few tips that might help! The whole Employ Florida registration is definitely required - no way around it unfortunately. What really helped me was doing it in chunks rather than trying to power through it all at once. I did the basic registration one day, then came back the next day for the resume builder, and finished the skills assessment on day three. This way I didn't feel rushed and could take my time with each section. One thing I noticed is that the system saves your progress pretty well between sections, but definitely hit save frequently within each section. Also, when you get to the job preferences part, be as specific as possible about location and job types - it seems to help with getting more relevant job matches later. My benefits continued seamlessly after completion, so don't stress too much about gaps. The whole process is annoying but it's just a hoop you have to jump through. You've got this!

Thanks for the tip about doing it in chunks! That's actually a really smart approach - I was dreading sitting through the whole thing in one session. Breaking it up over a few days sounds much more manageable and less stressful. Did you find that any particular section was more time-consuming than the others? I'm trying to plan out when to tackle each part.

I'm going through this exact same transition right now and this thread has been SO helpful! I was getting really anxious about the whole Employ Florida requirement because the instructions from DEO were pretty vague. Reading everyone's experiences here makes me feel much better about tackling it. I think I'll follow the advice about using Chrome, saving frequently, and breaking it into chunks over a few days rather than rushing through it all at once. One question - for those who completed it recently, did you get any kind of confirmation email or notification once everything was fully processed? I want to make sure I don't miss anything that could delay my benefits transition. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences! This community is such a lifesaver when dealing with all this bureaucracy.

Yes, you should get confirmation emails at a few different stages! When I completed mine, I got an immediate confirmation email right after finishing the registration, and then another one within 24-48 hours confirming that all my information had been processed and my account was active in their system. Make sure to check your spam folder too - some people miss the confirmations because they end up there. If you don't get anything within a couple days of completing everything, definitely follow up because that could indicate there was an issue with the submission. Also totally agree about this community being a lifesaver! The official instructions are so confusing but everyone here breaks it down in a way that actually makes sense. Good luck with your registration!
