DEO marked my mom's claim ineligible twice after reconsideration - desperate for solutions
So frustrated with DEO right now! My mom got laid off in February and March, and she filed for benefits right away. For some reason, DEO has deemed her ineligible TWICE for benefits covering those months. I went to floridajobs.org yesterday and submitted the reconsideration form, but it immediately showed 'ineligible reconsideration' status after submitting. I've been on hold with the DEO phone line for 1hr45min and counting (probably going to get disconnected like usual). Has anyone dealt with multiple ineligible determinations and successfully reversed them? What actually works? She has all her termination paperwork and everything showing she qualifies. We're getting desperate since she's owed around $2,800 and her bills are piling up fast.

Same exact thin happened 2 me last month!! I got deemed ineligible twice for no reason at all even tho I qualifed 100%. The reconsideration form is useless tbh, mine also said 'ineligible reconsideration' right after submitting. Calling DEO is a complete joke, I tried 47 times and either got busy signal or disconnected after waiting.

•Did you ever get it resolved? I'm worried they're going to keep denying her claim over and over with no explanation. Her employer even confirmed they laid her off!

This is a common issue with DEO's adjudication process. When you get an ineligible determination, here's what works better than the reconsideration form: 1. File a formal appeal (you have 20 days from each determination) 2. Upload ALL supporting documents through CONNECT (termination letter, pay stubs, etc) 3. Contact your state representative's office - they have special channels to DEO The key is understanding WHY she was deemed ineligible. Check her determination letters carefully for the specific reason code - it might be something fixable like missing work search requirements or incorrect separation reason.

•Thank you! I just checked and the reason code says "Separation - Voluntary Quit" but she absolutely didn't quit! Her employer downsized the whole department. Can we appeal both months at once or need separate appeals?

I had this EXACT PROBLEM and it was a complete nightmare!!!! My employer accidentally reported that I quit when I was actually laid off. The issue is on the employer's side, not yours. The DEO system is HORRIBLE because it automatically believes whatever the employer reports without even verifying with you first. I wasted THREE MONTHS trying to fix this by phone. DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE. Here's what finally worked: I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually get through to a human at DEO. They have this service where they call DEO for you and get you on the line with an agent - check their demo video: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj Once I actually spoke to someone, I had them schedule a fact-finding interview where I could explain the situation. After that interview, they reversed BOTH ineligible determinations at once and I got backpay within 10 days.

•Never heard of Claimyr before but might try it. Been calling DEO for 2 weeks straight with no luck.

The "Voluntary Quit" code explains everything. This is actually very common with DEO claims in 2025. When your mother's employer submitted their quarterly wage report, they likely used the wrong separation code. Some payroll systems default to "voluntary separation" unless the employer specifically changes it. Here's the step-by-step solution for this specific issue: 1. File an appeal for EACH determination letter within the 20-day deadline 2. In each appeal, clearly state "Employer incorrectly reported voluntary quit. Employee was laid off due to downsizing." 3. Upload documentation: termination letter, any communications about the layoff, etc. 4. Request a fact-finding interview specifically about the separation reason For the fastest resolution, you need to speak with the Adjudication Department directly. Regular call center agents can't override separation issues.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I didn't realize the employer might have coded it wrong. We'll definitely file those appeals today and request the fact-finding interview. Is there any specific wording we should use when requesting the interview to make sure we get it?

My cousin had this happen and it turned out her W4 had wrong social security # on it so the system couldnt match her employment records right. Check ALL your moms paperwork for errors too!

For the appeal request wording, be very specific: "I am requesting a fact-finding interview regarding incorrect separation reason. Employer reported voluntary quit, but claimant was laid off due to downsizing on [exact date]. Employer contact information is [name/phone] who can verify this information." Also, when you upload documents to CONNECT, name them clearly like "Layoff_Notice_[date]" or "Employer_Email_Confirming_Layoff" - this helps the adjudicator quickly find what they need.

•Perfect - we have the layoff notice and an email thread about the department downsizing. I'll get those uploaded with clear names. One last question - should we keep claiming weeks while waiting for the appeal to be processed?

Found out 2 weeks later that my boss checked the wrong box on some form!! Thats why it said I quit when I was laid off. The whole system is set up to deny people I swear. U gotta fight for every penny they owe u.

Yes, absolutely continue claiming weeks while the appeal is processing! This is critical - if you win the appeal but haven't been claiming weeks, you won't receive backpay for unclaimed weeks. Make sure she completes all five work search activities each week and reports them accurately. One more tip: If it's been more than 72 hours since you filed the appeal and you don't see it reflected in CONNECT, call and ask for the Appeals Department specifically. Sometimes appeals get lost in the system, especially when filed online.

•Thank you so much for all your help! We'll keep claiming weeks and make sure to follow up on the appeal if we don't see it in CONNECT. Hopefully we can get this sorted out soon.

This happened to me but with a twist - I was deemed eligible then they reversed it later and wanted money back! The whole DEO system is just broken. Good luck getting anyone on the phone without spending your whole day trying.
