CONNECT website error when entering employer address - DEO application keeps failing

I've been trying to help my brother file for unemployment in Florida since last Thursday and we're stuck in this frustrating loop on the CONNECT website. Every time we get to the employer address section, the system crashes with an error message saying 'we're experiencing technical difficulties' and to 'try again later' with some reference number. It also lists a phone number to call, but after 3 days of trying that number (called probably 30+ times), we either get an immediate disconnect or the 'all agents are busy' message. Has anyone else dealt with this specific error at the employer address section? Is there a workaround or specific time when the system works better? He was laid off from his construction job two weeks ago and we really need to get this claim submitted before bills start piling up. The rent is due next week and I'm seriously worried.

Did you ever get past it? We've tried Chrome, Edge and even tried on his phone with mobile data instead of wifi. Nothing works!

This is a known CONNECT glitch that's been happening since they updated the system last month. Two things you can try: 1. Try filing between 7-8am or after 8pm when server traffic is lower 2. If you know the exact zip code of the employer, try entering ONLY the zip code first, then adding the rest of the address after it processes 3. Make sure you're using the full legal name of the employer as it would appear on a W-2 If those don't work, you might need to try reaching a live agent to file over the phone or have them unlock whatever is causing the glitch in your account.

Thank you so much! I'll try the early morning approach tomorrow and the zip code trick. His employer is "Johnson & Sons Construction LLC" but maybe we should try just "Johnson & Sons Construction" without the LLC part?

I had this EXACT problem in February!! So frustrating. I ended up having to try at exactly 7:30am on a Tuesday and it finally went through. Something about the system doing maintenance overnight and being less bogged down first thing in the morning. Also check that you're not using any special characters like & or - in the employer name field. Those caused errors for me.

That's good to know about special characters! His employer does have an & in the name, so maybe that's part of the problem. I'll try removing it tomorrow morning. Did you end up getting your benefits approved eventually?

I specialize in helping people navigate DEO issues, and this error you're describing is unfortunately quite common on the CONNECT system. A few additional tips beyond what others have mentioned: 1. Clear your browser cache completely before trying again 2. When entering the employer address, try using ALL CAPS (strangely, this works sometimes) 3. If the company has multiple locations, try using their main headquarters address instead of the branch location 4. Make sure you're not on a VPN which can trigger security flags in the CONNECT system If you still can't get through, I'd recommend trying to reach a DEO agent directly. The regular phone line is almost impossible to get through on, but there's a service called Claimyr that can help connect you with a DEO agent. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj and their website is claimyr.com. They basically call for you and when they get an agent, they call you to connect. I used it when my account was locked and got through in about an hour instead of days of failed calls. Hope this helps, and good luck with your brother's claim!

Thank you so much for all these detailed tips! I didn't know about the all caps trick or the VPN thing (and he actually might be on a VPN since he uses one for gaming). I'll definitely check out that Claimyr service if we can't get it to work in the morning. At this point, I'd pay anything just to get this application submitted. Really appreciate your help!

I wonder if its cause of the construction job? My husband works construction too and had all kinds of problems with his claim last year. DEO kept flagging it for "seasonal work" review even though it wasnt seasonal, just a regular layoff. The employer address part went through but then it got stuck in adjudication for like 5 weeks!!

This is incorrect information. The issue isn't about construction jobs specifically - it's a system error in CONNECT that can happen with ANY employer type. The adjudication for construction is a separate process that happens AFTER the initial claim is accepted. Let's not confuse the original poster with unrelated problems.

What you're experiencing is the CONNECT system timestamp error that occurs when too many people are trying to file claims simultaneously. The employer address section is database-intensive and times out easily. Best approach is to: 1. Try during off-peak hours (before 8am) 2. Have ALL employer information ready (EIN if possible) 3. Enter data quickly without long pauses between fields 4. If it fails 3 times in a row, wait 24 hours before trying again (system flags repeated attempts as potential fraud) Also, make sure you're completing the 5 required work searches EACH WEEK even while trying to file the initial claim. You'll need to report these once the claim is finally accepted, and if you haven't been doing them, it could delay benefits. Use Employ Florida (employflorida.com) to track these officially.

Thank you for explaining the technical reason! We'll definitely try the early morning approach tomorrow. I didn't realize about the work search requirements starting BEFORE the claim is accepted! He hasn't been doing that because we thought it only started after approval. Will he need to backdate those searches somehow or just start now?

THE DEO SYSTEM IS GARBAGE!! Been dealing with them for years and it never gets better. They do this on purpose to discourage people from filing. I filed 21 times before mine went through last time. Keep trying different times of day, eventually it'll go through. Absolute joke of a system.

Just to follow up on your question about the work search requirements - technically yes, he should be doing 5 work searches per week from the date he became unemployed, not from when the claim is approved. However, since it sounds like he's only been unemployed for about 2 weeks, he can start doing them now and just document everything carefully. For the CONNECT error, did you try early morning yet? Any success?

We tried this morning at 6:30am and IT WORKED!! Got past the employer address section finally. But then we hit another roadblock at the earnings verification part. It's asking for quarterly earnings and we don't have those exact numbers. Is it OK to estimate his earnings or does it need to be exact? Thanks again for all your help!

Great news that you got past the address section! For the quarterly earnings, estimates are acceptable - the system will verify with the employer's tax filings later. Just get as close as you can with what you have available (pay stubs, bank deposits, etc.). If there's a discrepancy, they'll address it during the fact-finding process. The important thing is to complete the application.

That's a huge relief! We finished the application using his estimates from what he remembers earning each month. The claim now shows as "Pending - Wage Verification" which I assume means they're checking with his employer? Hopefully it moves forward without more issues! Thank you everyone for your helpful advice - would have been completely lost without you all.
