Will EDD count my county babysitting income against unemployment benefits?
Hey everyone, I'm thinking about applying for unemployment benefits soon, but I have a question. I do some babysitting for the county and I'm wondering if this income will affect my eligibility for unemployment. Does anyone have experience with this or know how it works? I want to make sure I report everything correctly when I apply.

When you apply for unemployment, you need to report ALL income, including babysitting. The EDD will use this info to determine your eligibility and benefit amount. Be honest and upfront about it!

•Thanks for the advice! Do you know if there's a specific way I should report the babysitting income? Like, do I need any special documentation?

•You should keep records of your babysitting income, like a log of hours worked and payments received. If you have any formal agreements or contracts with the county, those would be helpful too. Better to have too much documentation than not enough!

•Just be careful, sometimes they can be really picky about this stuff. I had a friend who didnt report some side gig income and it caused a huge headache later on 😬

I was in a similar boat last year. The key is to be 100% transparent about your income. When you certify for benefits each week, you'll need to report any earnings, including your babysitting money. It might reduce your weekly benefit amount, but it's better than risking an overpayment issue later.

Ugh, the EDD system is such a mess. Good luck getting a straight answer from them! 🙄

•I feel ya. But don't give up! Keep trying and document everything. It's frustrating but persistence pays off.

Here's what you need to know about babysitting income and unemployment: 1. Report all income: Even if it's just a few hours of babysitting, you must report it. 2. Weekly certification: When you certify for benefits each week, you'll need to report any earnings. 3. Partial benefits: Depending on how much you earn from babysitting, you may still be eligible for partial unemployment benefits. 4. Documentation: Keep detailed records of your babysitting work, including dates, hours, and pay. 5. Be consistent: Report your income the same way each time you certify. 6. Ask for clarification: If you're unsure about anything, ask the EDD for guidance. Remember, it's always better to over-report than under-report. Good luck with your application!

•Wow, thank you so much for this detailed breakdown! This is exactly what I needed. I'll make sure to keep good records of my babysitting work.

•This is great advice! I'd add that you should also be prepared for your weekly benefit amount to fluctuate based on your babysitting income. It's not necessarily a bad thing, just something to be aware of.

Have you considered looking for full-time work instead of relying on unemployment? The job market is pretty good right now in some fields.

•I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm actually in between jobs right now and trying to figure out my next move. The babysitting is just a temporary thing to help make ends meet.

•Not cool, man. Sometimes people need a little help while they're figuring things out. Unemployment exists for a reason.

Hey guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video for more info: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•I was skeptical at first too, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of frustration trying to get through on my own.

•$20 seems steep just to make a phone call. Cant believe we have to pay extra just to access a government service we're entitled to 😤

•I get it, but for me, it was worth it to finally get my issues resolved. Time is money, you know? 🤷♂️

Pro tip: When you talk to EDD, ask them about the earnings threshold for partial benefits. There's usually an amount you can earn before it starts affecting your unemployment. Knowing this can help you plan your babysitting hours.

•Preach! 🙌 It's like they make it complicated on purpose to discourage people from claiming benefits.
