EDD regular benefits ending soon - any extension options in 2025?
So my unemployment situation is getting desperate. I was laid off from my warehouse supervisor position in June after working there for about 18 months. Been receiving regular UI benefits since July, but I just realized I'm approaching my 26-week limit in January. With the job market still terrible in my area and nothing panning out despite 30+ applications, I'm freaking out about what happens when my benefits run dry. Are there ANY extensions available right now? I know back during COVID they had those extra weeks, but do they offer anything similar now? My benefit amount is $470/week and I honestly don't know how I'll pay rent if this just suddenly stops. Has anyone successfully gotten additional weeks beyond the standard 26? Any advice would seriously help - I'm losing sleep over this.

Thanks for the info. Definitely hard to hear there's no extensions right now. I did work a 2-week temp job in October but only made about $900 total - is that enough to qualify for anything? I'll definitely look into CalFresh. Do you know if the EDD automatically notifies you when you're getting close to the end of your benefits or do they just suddenly stop?

my benefits ran out last month and its been ROUGH. wish i had better news but ya the covid extentions are gone. check with local food banks too, thats what ive been doing + picked up doordash even tho it barely pays the gas. good luck man

Have you checked if you qualify for a Training Extension (TE)? If you enroll in an approved training program, you might be able to get up to 26 additional weeks. UPDATE: I called EDD this morning (took forever to get through) and got some clarity. I have exactly 4 weeks of benefits left. The rep confirmed that CTB might be my best option, but I need to act quickly since the application process takes time. Apparently, my temporary work doesn't qualify me for a new claim because it was too little income.\n\nI'm looking at a 12-week IT certification program that starts next month. I should probably look at what s'available locally in case the IT program doesn t'work out for timing or approval reasons. HVAC actually has pretty good job prospects in my area from what I ve'seen.
