EDD only paid half my benefit amount after claim approval - missing payment?
So confused right now. After waiting 5 weeks to get my claim approved (retail layoff), I finally certified for my first 2 weeks yesterday. Checked my account this morning and only $437 was deposited to my Money Network card instead of the $874 I was expecting (my weekly benefit amount is $437). Has anyone else experienced this? Is EDD withholding part of my payment for some reason? I triple-checked my certification and I'm 100% sure I reported everything correctly. No earnings, I was available for work, and actively looking. My UI Online account shows both weeks as 'paid' but the payment history only shows one week's worth of money. Should I be worried or is there a delay for the other week?

•Really? That's somewhat reassuring. Did it just show up without any explanation? Nothing on my UI Online account says there's an issue or delay.

Check the payment details in your UI Online account. Look at the Transaction section and see if there's a deduction for anything. Sometimes they withhold money for child support, overpayment recovery, or if you indicated you weren't available for work during part of the certification period. Also make sure both weeks show 'paid' and not 'pending' or 'disqualified' for one of them.

•Thanks for this! I double-checked and both weeks definitely show 'paid' status. No deductions listed anywhere - I don't have child support or previous overpayments. The payment history only shows one transaction for $437 though. I'm starting to wonder if I should call EDD, but we all know how that goes...

Look at the specific dates on the payment history. Sometimes when you certify for two weeks, they process them separately even though both show as 'paid'. The second week might be processed a day or two later. This is especially common for newly approved claims. If you still don't see the second payment by Friday, then you should contact EDD.

I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!! In my case it turned out my identity verification was only partially completed. Even though my claim was "approved" and I could certify, they were holding half my money until the ID.me verification fully processed. Check your UI Online inbox for any messages about identity verification or outstanding tasks. EDD NEVER MAKES THIS CLEAR and it's infuriating!!!

•Just checked my inbox and there's nothing about ID verification. I completed the ID.me process before my claim was even approved. This is so frustrating!

If you need to contact EDD, I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to an agent quickly. After trying for days with the regular number, I used their service and got connected in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The agent I spoke with found that one of my weeks had a hidden flag that wasn't visible on UI Online but was holding up payment. Worth a try if you can't get answers by Friday. Their website is claimyr.com

•Thanks for the suggestion! I might try that if I don't see the payment by Friday. Did they explain why your payment had a hidden flag? I'm wondering if something similar happened to me.

•In my case, there was a quarterly review flag that got triggered because my benefit year crossed into a new quarter. The EDD agent removed it manually once I got through. It wasn't showing anywhere on my UI Online account - super frustrating but once I talked to someone it was fixed within 24 hours and payment came through.

Is this your first time certifying ever? Sometimes the first certification behaves differently - EDD pays the second week first, then the first week comes a few days later. My husband and I both had UI claims (different times) and both experienced something similar with the first payment. Just wait a bit longer.

•Yes, this is my first time certifying on this claim. That's interesting about the reversed order - I had no idea they might process it that way. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Update us if the second payment comes through! Based on what you've shared, I'm still thinking it's most likely just a processing delay for your first certification. The EDD system treats the first certification differently from subsequent ones.

•Good news! The second payment just posted to my Money Network card this morning. You were right - just a delay between the two weeks of payment. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance! I'll know not to panic next time.
