EDD UI Online showing 'no wages' despite recent employment - how to fix?
I'm trying to file a new claim on UI Online but keep getting an error saying I have no wages in my base period! I've been working steadily at the same company for 3 years and definitely have qualifying wages. The system just won't let me proceed past this point. Has anyone dealt with this 'no wages' error before? Do I seriously have to call EDD (ugh) or submit a paper application? The thought of waiting weeks for a paper app to process is making me anxious since my rent is due soon. Any advice on fixing this UI Online glitch would be appreciated!

•Ugh, I was afraid of that. Been trying to call for 2 days already with no luck. Did they eventually fix it for you over the phone?

This is a common issue with UI Online. There are a few possible reasons this is happening: 1. Your employer hasn't properly reported your wages to EDD (most common) 2. You worked out of state during part of your base period 3. Your employer reported you under a slightly different name/SSN 4. There's a system glitch in the wage database Unfortunately, you will need to speak with an EDD representative to resolve this. They can manually verify your wages and override the system. Paper applications take 2-3 weeks to process, so I'd try calling first. Best times to call are right when they open at 8:00 AM or around 11:30 AM when the morning rush dies down.

•Thanks for the detailed explanation! I'm pretty sure it's reason #1 since my company has had payroll issues before. I'll try calling again tomorrow morning right at 8. Fingers crossed!

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!!! I had the EXACT same problem in January and spent TWO WEEKS trying to get through. When I finally did, they told me my employer hadn't reported my wages properly and I needed to submit paystubs and W2s as PROOF. Such a waste of time!!! The EDD knows you worked, they just make it as difficult as possible to actually get benefits!!!

•Same thing happened to my brother but he just gave up and didn't get his benefits. I told him to keep trying but he said it wasn't worth the hassle. The system really is broken.

Try using Claimyr to get through to EDD faster. I was in the same situation with the no wages error and spent days trying to call with no luck. Used Claimyr and got connected to a rep in about 20 minutes. They fixed the wage issue while I was on the phone. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. Definitely saved me from having to file a paper application.

•I've never heard of Claimyr before. Does it actually work? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. The EDD phone system is driving me insane.

•Yes, it worked for me! The service basically keeps dialing EDD until it gets through, then calls you to connect. My issue was resolved that same day.

I work at a nonprofit that helps people with unemployment issues. The "no wages" problem happens frequently and it's almost always fixable. Here's what you should have ready when you reach an EDD representative: 1. Your last 18 months of paystubs (or at least quarters that fall in your base period) 2. W-2s from the previous year 3. Any employment verification letters 4. Your employer's correct legal name and EIN (tax ID number) The rep can manually enter your wage information and override the system. Don't give up - this is a technical issue, not an eligibility issue. Your benefits will be backdated to when you first tried to apply.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I have all my paystubs as PDFs and my W-2 from last year. Will definitely gather all this before I call. It's reassuring to know this is just a technical issue and not something wrong with my actual eligibility.

I actually mailed in a paper application when I had this problem and it worked out fine! It took about 10 days to process (not weeks like I feared). The paper form lets you manually enter your wage information. Just make sure you include copies of your paystubs and W-2s. Send it certified mail so you have proof they received it. It was less stressful than trying to call repeatedly, at least for me.

•10 days? ur lucky. mine took 6 weeks lol. but ya better than calling 1000 times

•That's actually faster than I expected for a paper application. Where did you get the form? Can you download it from the EDD website or do they have to mail it to you?

•You can download it from the EDD website! Go to forms and publications, then look for DE 1101I. They also have them at America's Job Centers if you prefer to pick one up in person.

I had this problem but it turned out I was confusing SDI with UI. Make sure you're filing for the right program! Disability insurance is different from unemployment insurance and they have different systems and requirements.

•Thanks, but I'm definitely applying for UI. I was laid off from my job and am looking for new work, not disabled. But good point - the different EDD programs can be confusing!

Update us when you get this resolved! I'm curious which method ends up working for you. These system issues are frustrating but they're usually fixable once you reach the right person at EDD.

•I'll definitely post an update! Going to try calling again tomorrow morning, and if that doesn't work I might try the Claimyr service someone mentioned. Will let you know how it goes.

UPDATE: Finally got through to EDD this morning! The rep was actually really helpful. Turns out my employer had been reporting my wages under a slightly misspelled version of my name (they had added an extra 'n'). The rep was able to match my work history, verify my identity, and override the system to fix the wage issue. My claim is now processing normally! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. For anyone else with this problem - keep trying to get through on the phone, it's definitely fixable!

•Great news! This is exactly why speaking with a rep is important - simple data entry errors are surprisingly common. Glad to hear it was resolved quickly once you got through.

So glad you got it resolved! The misspelled name issue is actually more common than people think. I've seen it happen with apostrophes in names, hyphens, and even Jr./Sr. suffixes causing problems in their system. Your post will definitely help others who run into the same "no wages" error - it's a good reminder that persistence with calling really does pay off. The EDD system has its flaws but the reps can usually fix these database matching issues once you get through to them.

•This is really helpful to know! I never would have thought that something as simple as a misspelled name could cause such a major issue with the system. It makes me wonder how many people give up on their claims because they don't realize it might just be a data entry error that can be fixed. Thanks for sharing this - it's definitely something to keep in mind if anyone else runs into similar problems.

This thread is so helpful! I'm dealing with a similar issue right now where UI Online says I don't have enough wages to qualify, even though I've been working full-time for over a year. Reading about the misspelled name problem makes me think that might be what's happening to me too - my employer sometimes uses my nickname on paperwork instead of my legal name. Going to try calling EDD tomorrow with all my documentation ready. It's encouraging to see that these issues really can be resolved once you get through to someone who knows what they're doing!

•That's definitely worth checking! The nickname vs legal name issue sounds very similar to what happened with the original poster. When you call, make sure to mention both versions of your name that your employer might have used - that could save the rep some time in tracking down your wage records. Also, if you have any old paystubs or tax documents that show exactly how your employer has been reporting your name, bring those up during the call. Good luck getting through tomorrow!

•Good luck with your call tomorrow! The name mismatch issue seems to be way more common than I realized before reading this thread. I'd also suggest having your Social Security number ready when you call - sometimes the reps can search by SSN if the name search isn't working. And don't get discouraged if it takes multiple attempts to get through - the wait times are brutal but it's definitely worth it once you connect with someone who can actually help fix these database issues.

I work as a benefits counselor and see this "no wages" error constantly. One thing people don't realize is that EDD's wage database only updates quarterly, so if you worked for a new employer recently (within the last 3 months), those wages might not show up yet. Also, if your employer is behind on their quarterly wage reporting to EDD, that can cause this issue too. The good news is that once a rep manually adds your wage information, it's permanent in the system - you won't have this problem again for future claims. Keep all your documentation organized because you might need to provide it again if you have to reopen your claim later.

•This is such valuable information! I had no idea about the quarterly reporting delays. That explains why my friend had issues when she tried to file right after starting a new job. The part about keeping documentation organized is really smart advice too - I never thought about needing it again for future claims. It's reassuring to know that once the wage info is manually added, it sticks in the system. Thanks for sharing your professional insight on this!

I'm dealing with something similar right now! My UI Online account is showing partial wages but missing my most recent employer completely. I've been at my current job for 8 months and they're not showing up at all in the wage history. Based on what I'm reading here, it sounds like I'll need to call EDD to get this manually fixed. Does anyone know if they can add missing employers to your wage record, or do they only fix name/spelling issues? I have all my paystubs and my W-2 from last year, so I have proof of employment. Just trying to figure out if calling is worth it or if I should go straight to the paper application route.

•Yes, EDD reps can definitely add missing employers to your wage record! I had a similar situation where one of my previous employers wasn't showing up at all in the system. When I finally got through to a rep, they were able to manually add all the missing wage information using my paystubs and W-2. It's actually pretty common - sometimes smaller employers are late with their quarterly reporting or there are technical glitches in the data transfer. I'd definitely recommend calling first before doing a paper application, especially since you have all your documentation ready. The rep can usually fix it on the spot once they verify your employment. Just be prepared for the wait times and have your employer's full legal name and EIN ready if you have it!

I just went through this exact same issue last week! The "no wages" error is super frustrating but definitely fixable. In my case, it turned out my employer had been reporting my wages under my maiden name even though I'd updated all my paperwork after getting married 2 years ago. The EDD rep was able to search under both names and found all my wage records immediately. One tip that really helped me get through faster - I called right at 8:00 AM on a Wednesday and got connected in about 15 minutes. Tuesdays and Fridays seem to be the worst days to call. Also, have your employer's full legal business name ready (not just the name you know them by) because sometimes that's listed differently in their system too. The whole call took maybe 20 minutes once I got through, and my claim was approved that same day. Don't lose hope - this is totally solvable!

•This is really encouraging to hear! The maiden name vs married name issue is something I never would have thought of, but it makes total sense that it could cause problems in their system. Your tip about calling on Wednesdays is super helpful too - I've been trying randomly throughout the week with no luck. I'm going to try calling Wednesday morning at 8 AM sharp with all my documentation ready, including both versions of my name just in case. It's such a relief to know that once you get through to someone, they can actually fix these issues quickly. Thanks for sharing your experience and the specific timing advice!

This whole thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm actually going through something similar right now where UI Online is saying I don't have sufficient wages, even though I've been working steadily for the past two years. Reading about all the different causes - misspelled names, missing employers, maiden vs married names, quarterly reporting delays - really opens your eyes to how many technical issues can cause this error. It's frustrating that the system has so many potential failure points, but at least it sounds like the reps can fix these problems once you actually get through to them. I'm going to gather all my paystubs and W-2s and try calling Wednesday morning at 8 AM like someone suggested. Has anyone had luck with the automated callback feature, or is it better to just keep redialing manually?

Zainab Ahmed
•I haven't had much luck with the automated callback feature personally - it seems like it either never calls back or calls at random times when I'm not available. Manual redialing has worked better for me, especially using the approach others mentioned where you call right when they open. One thing I learned from this thread is to also have your Social Security number ready as an alternative search method if the name searches aren't working. The reps can sometimes find your wage records that way even if there are spelling or name issues. It's crazy how many different technical problems can cause the same "no wages" error, but at least now we know what to expect when calling!

I'm going through this exact same issue right now! My UI Online keeps showing "no wages found" even though I've been working full-time for over two years at the same company. Reading through everyone's experiences here gives me so much hope - it sounds like this is almost always a technical/database issue rather than an actual problem with eligibility. I'm planning to call tomorrow morning right at 8 AM with all my documentation ready: paystubs, W-2s, and my employer's full legal name and EIN. It's reassuring to see how many people have had success once they actually got through to a representative. The misspelled name issue really caught my attention - I wonder if that could be my problem too since my name has some unusual spelling. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and tips! This thread is going to save me so much stress and confusion. I'll make sure to update once I get this resolved.
