PFL claim for baby bonding still pending after a month - did I mess up?
Hey everyone, I submitted a family leave claim at the beginning of this month for baby bonding pay, but it's still pending. I'm worried I might have messed something up. Has anyone else dealt with this? How long did it take for your claim to go through? I just want to make sure I didn't miss any steps or if there's anything else I need to do to get my pay.

Congrats on the new baby! 🎉 I went through this last year. It can take a while, unfortunately. Have you checked your online account for any updates or messages? Sometimes they need additional info but don't always reach out directly.

Thanks! I've been checking my account daily, but no updates yet. It's so frustrating not knowing if I did everything right or if I'm just being impatient 😅

Pro tip: call them first thing in the morning when they open. You might have better luck getting through to someone who can check on your claim status.

Good idea, I'll try that tomorrow. Fingers crossed I can actually get through! 🤞

ugh, the waiting game is the WORST. I remember when I filed mine, it felt like it took forever. Hang in there! Have you tried calling them?

I've tried calling a few times but always get the dreaded busy signal. It's like trying to win the lottery just to talk to someone 🙄

Same boat here. I swear they have like 2 people working the phones for the entire state 🤡

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

It actually does work! I was skeptical too, but I was desperate. I waited about 2 hours, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They called me when an agent was on the line.

20 bucks tho? That's kinda steep just to talk to someone about your own money 😒

I get it, but for me, it was worth it to finally get some answers and not waste an entire day on hold. Time is money, ya know?

Here's what I've learned from my experience and others I know who've gone through this process: 1. Processing time can vary wildly, from 2-6 weeks on average. 2. Make sure you've submitted ALL required documentation. This includes: - Proof of relationship to the child - Child's birth certificate - Any medical certifications if applicable 3. Double-check that your employer has submitted their portion of the paperwork. 4. If it's been more than 4 weeks, definitely try to contact them. 5. Keep an eye on your online account for any requests for additional information. 6. Sometimes, claims get stuck in the system for no apparent reason. Calling can help unstick them. 7. Be persistent but patient. The system is often overloaded. Hope this helps! Hang in there, and enjoy your time with your little one! 💖👶

Preach! 🙌 It's like they want us to fail or give up. We shouldn't have to be detectives just to get what we're entitled to.

For real. Other countries have it so much better. We're supposed to be a first-world country but our family leave policies are a joke.

Quick question - did you make sure to file for both SDI and PFL? Sometimes people forget you need to do both for the full benefit period.

Wait, what? I thought PFL was all I needed for baby bonding. What's the difference? Now I'm worried I messed something up 😰

Don't panic! PFL is for bonding, but if you gave birth, you usually start with SDI for recovery, then switch to PFL. If you're not the birthing parent, just PFL is fine. Sorry for the confusion!

Ohh, gotcha. No, I'm the dad, so I think I'm good with just PFL. Thanks for clarifying! This stuff is so confusing sometimes.
