Money Network phone number for EDD cardholders - what actually works in 2025
Okay so I've been going absolutely crazy trying to find the right Money Network phone number for EDD cardholders. I got my California EDD debit card last week after finally getting approved for unemployment benefits and now I'm having issues with the card - it keeps declining even though I can see there's a balance on the account. I called the number on the back of the card but after sitting on hold for like 45 minutes I got disconnected without ever reaching anyone. Then I found a different number online but I'm not sure if it's actually the legitimate Money Network customer service line specifically for California EDD cardholders or just some generic number. Can someone confirm what the correct contact information is and maybe share any tips for actually getting through? I've got rent due in 4 days and this is genuinely stressful.

The official Money Network customer service number for California EDD cardholders is 1-800-684-7051. That's the one printed on the back of your EDD debit card and it's the legitimate line. There's also a 24/7 automated line at that same number where you can check your balance, transaction history, and report a lost or stolen card without needing to reach a live agent. If you need a live person specifically, try calling early morning like 8am when call volume is typically lower.

•Thank you! Yeah that's the number I called. Got disconnected after 45 min which was brutal. I'll try the early morning tip.

•same number worked for me last month, got through in about 20 minutes calling right at 8am on a Tuesday

•Just to add - if your card is declining despite having a balance, it's sometimes a merchant category restriction issue and not a funds problem. The EDD Money Network card has restrictions on certain merchant types. You can usually resolve that through the automated system or online at myeddebitcard.com.

Declining card with a visible balance is usually one of two things - either the card isn't activated properly or there's a security hold from an unusual transaction attempt. Did you activate the card when you first got it? There's an activation step separate from just having the account funded. Call 1-800-684-7051 and navigate to card activation even if you think you already did it - sometimes it doesn't register correctly the first time.

MidnightRider
•I DID activate it, or at least I thought I did. Maybe it didn't go through completely. I'll try going through activation again.

•omg I had this exact same thing happen!! spent like 3 days thinking my card was broken, turns out activation just didnt register. called back and did it again and worked immediately

•Also worth checking if maybe the balance you're seeing includes pending deposits that haven't fully cleared yet. Sometimes California EDD payments show as 'pending' in the Money Network system before they're actually available to spend.

I was in a similar bind about 2 months ago - my EDD debit card wasn't working and I desperately needed to reach Money Network customer service before a payment deadline. After getting disconnected twice from the 1-800-684-7051 number I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to a California EDD agent directly (not Money Network, but EDD itself) to verify my payment had actually been released to Money Network. That was actually the root of my problem - EDD hadn't fully processed the release. The site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 - it was a genuine lifesaver when I was stressed about bills.

MidnightRider
•Wait so you used it to reach EDD directly rather than Money Network? That's actually useful because I'm wondering now if the issue is on EDD's end before the money even gets to the card.

•good point actually - these are two separate systems. money network is just the card provider, EDD is where the actual benefit payment originates. if theres a hold or issue on the EDD side you wont see it reflected in your money network balance correctly

•I've heard of Claimyr. Did it actually get you through quickly? I gave up trying to call EDD directly because of the hold times.

•Yeah it was genuinely fast compared to what I was dealing with before. Didn't have to sit on hold for hours myself. For anyone dealing with California EDD payment release issues specifically it's worth looking into - claimyr.com

MONEY NETWORK AND EDD ARE COMPLETELY SEPARATE SYSTEMS AND PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THIS. Your EDD account handles benefit eligibility and payment authorization. Money Network ONLY receives and distributes what EDD sends them. So if your card isn't working you need to figure out WHICH system has the problem first. Check your UI Online account at portal.edd.ca.gov to see if payments show as 'paid' on EDD's end. If they do show paid there and still not on your card, THEN Money Network is your issue. If they don't show paid on EDD's end, calling Money Network is completely pointless.

•This is actually really helpful context. Let me check UI Online first before I keep trying to call Money Network.

•This is 100% correct and the most important thing anyone in this thread has said. So many people waste hours calling Money Network when the issue is actually an EDD payment hold or adjudication flag on the UI side.

•ugh I learned this the hard way. spent two days calling money network when the real issue was a certification hold on my EDD weekly claim. such a waste of time

just wanted to say I went through something similar last year and the stress of not being able to access unemployment money when bills are due is REAL. hoping you get this sorted out quickly. the system really should make this easier to navigate

Let me give you a more complete breakdown of the Money Network contact options for California EDD cardholders since there's some confusion floating around: 1-800-684-7051 - Main customer service, EDD cardholders specifically This line has 24/7 automated service for: balance inquiries, transaction history, reporting lost/stolen cards, disputing transactions For live agent assistance the automated system usually has you press specific options. The dispute resolution department sometimes has shorter wait times than general customer service if your issue qualifies. You can also manage a lot through myeddebitcard.com - check balance, view transactions, request a replacement card, update contact info. Creating an online account there is honestly faster than calling for most routine stuff.

•This is super helpful, bookmarking this. Going to try myeddebitcard.com to see if I can diagnose the issue online first.

•does the online portal let you unlock the card if it got security locked? or do you need to call for that
0 coins
Jamal Washington
•Security locks typically require calling the live agent line unfortunately. The online portal handles most account management but security holds are usually an agent-only function for verification purposes.

•Also worth noting you can set up text alerts through the online portal so you get notified of every transaction. Helps catch problems way faster than waiting to notice something's wrong.

okay so genuine question - when EDD sends your payment to Money Network how long does it actually take? like EDD says 'paid' but then how many days before its on the card? asking because im also having delays and trying to figure out if its normal or not
0 coins
Andre Laurent
•Standard transfer time is 24-48 hours after EDD marks it as paid. So if your UI Online shows payment issued on Monday you'd typically expect it on the Money Network card by Tuesday evening or Wednesday at latest. If it's been longer than 48 hours after the EDD payment date that's when you'd start troubleshooting.

Ava Williams
•mine has been 3 days since EDD shows paid and still nothing on money network. guess I need to start making calls
0 coins
Mei Wong
•At 3 days you should definitely reach out. Start with EDD to confirm no holds were placed after the initial payment authorization - sometimes secondary reviews get triggered after initial payment shows. claimyr.com helped someone earlier in this thread get through to EDD faster if the hold times are bad.

i keep seeing people say call early morning but honestly ive called money network at like 7 different times of day and the wait times are all over the place. called at 8am once and waited an hour, called at 2pm another time and got through in 10 minutes. total lottery situation in my experience

•There's definitely day-of-week variation too. Mondays are almost always bad because of weekend transaction issues piling up. Mid-week tends to be more manageable.

Has anyone dealt with a Money Network card just straight up not working at ATMs but being fine at point of sale? Mine processes fine when I swipe at stores but every ATM I try says declined. Called the 1-800 number and they kept saying there's no block on ATM transactions but it's clearly not working.
0 coins
Jamal Washington
•There's a daily ATM withdrawal limit on EDD Money Network cards - I believe it's $1,000 per day. Also some ATMs charge fees and the system might reject if it would push past certain thresholds. But also - make sure you're using ATMs in the AllPoint network which are fee-free for EDD cardholders. Non-network ATMs sometimes have compatibility issues beyond just the fee.

Connor O'Neill
•Oh I didn't know about the AllPoint network thing. I've just been using random ATMs. That might be the whole problem honestly.

•Yeah AllPoint network is huge for this. You can find AllPoint ATMs at Target, CVS, Walgreens, a bunch of other places. The Money Network website has a locator tool.

Adding some context as someone who went through a lengthy EDD situation last year - the Money Network card system works fine WHEN EDD's payment processing is clean. The issues almost always trace back to something upstream on the California EDD side. Things that cause payment problems even after initial approval: - Pending identity verification flags - Weekly certification issues (missed a week or answered something that triggered review) - Employer disputes that came in after initial approval - Address mismatches between EDD records and Money Network If the card isn't working despite a visible balance, definitely check UI Online before assuming it's a Money Network problem. And if you need to reach EDD directly to investigate payment holds, those calls can be brutal - I've seen people in this sub mention Claimyr (claimyr.com) as a way to get through the phone queue faster when you have an urgent payment situation.
0 coins
MidnightRider
•I checked UI Online like someone suggested above and it actually DOES show the payment as released to Money Network. So I think it genuinely is a Money Network issue now. Back to trying to reach them.
0 coins
LunarEclipse
•If EDD shows released then Money Network definitely has it. In that case definitely push for the disputes/escalations department when you call rather than general customer service - they tend to have more ability to actually investigate where a payment is sitting.

Yara Khalil
•what number do you push for disputes at money network? i can never find the right path through their phone tree
0 coins
LunarEclipse
•From what I recall it's something like press 1 for English, then there's a card services option, then an option for transaction issues or disputes. The exact tree changes periodically so just keep listening for anything about 'transaction issue' or 'problem with my card' rather than just general account info.

lol the money network phone tree is genuinely one of the most confusing automated systems ive ever dealt with. half the options dont seem to lead where they say they will

Pro tip that actually helped me: if you have a Money Network account set up at myeddebitcard.com you can actually initiate a card issue report through the secure message system in the portal instead of calling. Takes longer to get a response (24-48 hrs) but if your situation isn't immediately time-critical it saves the phone nightmare. For urgent stuff though you still need to call.
0 coins
MidnightRider
•Unfortunately mine is time-critical with rent due. But good to know for future reference.

Zainab Ibrahim
•Understood - in that case calling is your only real-time option. Good luck, hope you get through quickly.

Can I ask a dumb question - when people say they see a balance on their Money Network account is that through the myeddebitcard.com portal or through calling the automated line? Because I've heard the automated line balance can sometimes be delayed vs the portal balance
0 coins
Jamal Washington
•Not a dumb question at all - the portal and automated line should sync to the same data but there can be small timing differences. The portal is generally considered more current. Also worth checking the transaction history specifically, not just the balance, because sometimes there are pending holds that reduce available balance even if the total shows correctly.
0 coins
Yara Khalil
•Oh that's actually really good to know. So I could have a balance that shows X but available balance could be less because of holds.
0 coins
Andre Laurent
•Exactly right. Available balance = what you can actually spend. Total balance can include pending holds or even funds that are technically there but under security review. Always look at available balance not just total.

Going back to OP's original issue - declining card with a balance showing - I dealt with this exact situation and it turned out to be a ZIP code mismatch. When you use the EDD Money Network card at certain merchants they ask for the billing ZIP code. If the ZIP code on file with Money Network doesn't match what you enter it'll decline. Make sure whatever ZIP you have registered with Money Network matches your current address.

MidnightRider
•OH WAIT. I moved like 3 months ago and might not have updated my address with Money Network separately from EDD. Is that a separate update?
0 coins
Zoe Papadopoulos
•YES it is separate! Updating your address with EDD doesn't automatically update it with Money Network. You need to update both. Log into myeddebitcard.com to update the Money Network side.
0 coins
MidnightRider
•This might literally be the answer to my whole problem. Updating right now. Thank you so much.
0 coins
Mei Wong
•This is such a common gotcha. EDD and Money Network are separate systems with separate account info. Changes in one don't automatically carry over to the other. Worth making sure everything matches periodically.

Does anyone know if the Money Network customer service number for EDD cardholders is different from regular Money Network customers? Like I looked up Money Network and there seem to be multiple lines
0 coins
Andre Laurent
•Yes, there's a specific number for California EDD cardholders: 1-800-684-7051. Regular Money Network customers use different contact lines. The EDD-specific line has agents trained on California unemployment benefit issues and the specific card program EDD uses. Always use the EDD-specific number.
0 coins
Fatima Al-Mansour
•Good to know, I'll make sure to use that one specifically.

PixelWarrior
•Also the number on the back of your physical card is definitely the right one. Don't use any number you found through a random Google search - there are some sketchy sites that post fake support numbers for things like this.

I want to share what worked for me when I had a similar issue a few weeks ago since this thread is asking about getting through to Money Network. I tried calling for two days, kept getting disconnected or insane wait times. Eventually I decided to also try reaching California EDD directly to make sure the problem wasn't on their end before I kept fighting with Money Network. Used Claimyr at claimyr.com to get through to an EDD agent - there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 that shows how it works. EDD confirmed the payment was clean on their end and gave me a transaction reference number which I then used when calling Money Network. Having that reference number made the Money Network call way more efficient because I could immediately tell them it wasn't an EDD-side issue.
0 coins
MidnightRider
•That's actually a really smart approach - getting EDD to give you a transaction reference number to use with Money Network. That way you're not going in blind.
0 coins
StormChaser
•Exactly. Money Network agents seem to respond better when you come in with specific info rather than just 'my card isn't working.' The reference number basically proves the payment cleared EDD's end and the issue is on Money Network's side.
0 coins
Yara Khalil
•never would have thought to do it in that order but it makes complete sense

•this is genuinely good advice. documenting everything and getting reference numbers from each system makes resolving cross-system issues so much faster

Just adding some additional context for anyone who finds this thread later searching for Money Network EDD cardholder information: The Money Network card used by California EDD is specifically called the EDD Debit Card - Bank of America actually handles this program in 2025 (there was a transition). If you got a newer card it may actually be a Bank of America card rather than a Money Network card. The old Money Network program has been phased out and new EDD debit cards are issued through Bank of America's prepaid program. Worth checking which card you actually have because the customer service numbers and portals are different.
0 coins
Andre Laurent
•This is an important clarification. EDD did transition card programs. If you have a newer California EDD debit card issued recently it's through Bank of America. The Bank of America EDD card number is 1-800-432-1000. Money Network was the older program.
0 coins
MidnightRider
•I wonder which one I actually have now. The card just says EDD on it but I'll check more carefully.

•Look at the back of the card - if it says Bank of America anywhere that's the current program. If it says Money Network it's the older one. Both are legitimate EDD debit card programs just from different eras of the program.
