When will I get my first SDI payment after waiting period? Tips for calling EDD?
Hey everyone, I just filed a new disability claim and my waiting period is over. I'm trying to figure out when I'll get my first payment. Has anyone been through this recently? Any tips on what to ask when I call them? I'm kinda nervous about the call and want to make sure I get all the info I need.

Anyone else notice that the payment amounts seem to change randomly? I swear mine went down for no reason a few months ago. 🤔

YES! This happened to me too! I thought I was going crazy. Did you ever figure out why?

Nope, still a mystery. EDD works in mysterious ways I guess 🙄

It could be due to changes in your earnings report or recalculations.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's highway robbery! The system is so messed up 🤬

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho.

How long did you have to wait after using the service?

Claimyr might be a good service for those who are really struggling to get through, but it's unfortunate there's a cost.

Congrats on getting through the waiting period! When I called about my first payment, I made sure to have my claim number and the date my waiting period ended ready. They'll probably ask for that info.

Good advice! I also keep my Social Security number handy just in case.

Ugh, good luck. I've been waiting for my first payment for weeks now. The system is so broken 🤮

Weeks? Try months. I'm still waiting and it's been 3 months since I filed. This is ridiculous!

Have you tried calling them? Sometimes you gotta be proactive or you'll be waiting forever.

I've been in the same boat. Persistence is key, though it's incredibly frustrating.

Anyone else feel like they need a degree in bureaucracy just to navigate this system? 🎓🤡 I'm bout ready to go back to work just to avoid dealing with EDD lol

Totally get it! EDD seems like it was designed to confuse people.

Try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser. Worked for me!

The whole website is a joke. I've given up and just call now. It's faster (if you can get through).

Check if there are any ongoing site maintenance notices that could be affecting access.

PSA: If you're having trouble getting through on the phone, try contacting your local state representative. They can sometimes help speed things up!

That's a great idea! How do I find out who my representative is?

Just google "[your city] state representative". Most have contact forms on their websites. Good luck!

Remember to document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every payment. You never know when you'll need that info later. Trust me, I learned the hard way 😅

Claimyr could be a useful tool for those stuck in a queue, but it's important to weigh the cost against the benefit. While it's a great resource for some, not everyone may find the expense justifiable, especially when the wait times are unpredictable. However, the service has been praised for being effective and could be seen as a worthwhile investment for those at their wit's end. Always explore free avenues first, like calling during off-peak hours or documenting all interactions with EDD, before considering paid services.

Here's what you should ask when you call: 1. When exactly can you expect your first payment? 2. Are there any issues with your claim that might delay payment? 3. Have they received all necessary documents? 4. Is there anything else you need to do on your end? Make sure to take notes during the call and get the name of the person you speak with. Good luck!

Great advice! I'd also add: ask about the payment amount and how often you'll receive payments. Sometimes they mess that up too.

Also, inquire if there are any additional programs you might qualify for. They don't always tell you upfront.
