SDI payment missing, using wrong income data, can't afford surgery now - help!

I'm in a really frustrating situation with SDI. My claim got messed up because my surgeon lost access to the electronic system, so everything had to be done manually. I mailed in my claim weeks ago, but now I'm having issues with the payment. They said they deposited money, but it's not showing up in my account. Plus, the amount is way less than what I got last time - like $1,000 instead of $4,000 per month. I can't live on that! I'm supposed to have surgery, but now I'm thinking of canceling because I can't afford to be on such low disability pay. Has anyone else dealt with SDI using old income data or payments not showing up? What can I do?

I found a way to solve SDI claim payment issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtfARmvdAE0

Ugh, SDI is such a nightmare! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I had a similar issue with them using outdated income info. You need to call and explain your work history in detail. Be prepared to provide pay stubs or tax returns to prove your recent income. Don't let them lowball you!

Yea but good luck getting through to anyone on the phone. I've been trying for weeks!

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. That's how I finally got through after trying for days.

Oh man, I forgot how hard it is to reach them. Maybe try the local office if you have one nearby? Sometimes face-to-face is easier.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at SDI. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😀

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Sometimes you gotta pay to play, ya know? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Here's what you need to do to fix your SDI claim: 1. Gather all your income documentation for the past 18 months. 2. Write a detailed letter explaining the situation with your surgeon and the manual claim process. 3. Request a recalculation of your benefit amount based on your most recent income. 4. Ask for an explanation of the missing deposit. 5. If you decide to cancel your claim, get a letter from your doctor explaining why. 6. Send everything via certified mail so you have proof of delivery. 7. Follow up with a phone call (use the trick others mentioned to get through) about a week after mailing. 8. If all else fails, contact your local state representative's office. They can sometimes intervene on your behalf. Don't give up! The system is frustrating, but persistence pays off. Good luck!

This is solid advice. I'd add one thing - keep a log of every interaction, including dates, names, and what was discussed. It'll help if you need to escalate later.

Fr tho, how does a whole medical practice function without access to SDI for that long? πŸ€” Something ain't adding up here...

I know, right? It's absurd. I've been telling him to go to an SDI office in person to sort it out. Guess some docs are great with scalpels but terrible with computers πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I'm in the same boat with the low payments. SDI used my income from when I was working part-time in college instead of my full-time job last year. It's a joke. I'm barely scraping by. 😭

Have you considered applying for other assistance programs while you sort this out? Food stamps, rental assistance, etc. Might help bridge the gap if you decide to go through with the surgery.

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I'll look into it. Thanks!

This is why we need universal healthcare smh. Imagine having to cancel a necessary surgery because the disability system is so messed up. America, get it together! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸš‘πŸ’Έ

lets not turn this into a political debate guys. OP needs practical advice, not a policy discussion

idk if this helps, but I had luck reaching SDI through their social media. Try messaging them on Twitter or Facebook. Sometimes public complaints get faster responses. πŸ‘€
