No response from EDD after a month - normal or should I panic?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I sent in my disability insurance application about a month ago and haven't heard anything back. No confirmation, no nothing. Is this normal? Should I be worried? I'm thinking about calling them to check on the status, but I'm not sure what to ask. Any advice would be appreciated!

Ugh, welcome to the club. I swear, dealing with disability insurance is like trying to nail jello to a wall. Have you tried checking your online account? Sometimes they update stuff there before sending anything out.

Thanks for the tip! I actually haven't set up an online account yet. Guess I should get on that ASAP.

Online account is def the way to go. Makes life so much easier when dealing with these bureaucratic nightmares 🙄

No prob! Yeah, set it up asap. It's a game changer. Plus, you can obsessively check it every 5 minutes like the rest of us 😂

A month with no confirmation is pretty standard tbh. The system is swamped. But it doesn't hurt to call and check. When you do, make sure to ask: 1. If they received your application 2. If it's been processed or is still pending 3. If they need any additional info from you 4. What's the estimated timeline for a decision Good luck!

lol good luck getting anyone on the phone. I've been trying for weeks and keep getting the 'all lines are busy' message. It's like they're allergic to answering calls or smthn 🙄

Yo, I found a way around that! There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials through the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a real person picks up. Costs $20 but totally worth it imo. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Wait, for real? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

Seems kinda sketchy... $20 just to talk to someone? 🤔

I get the skepticism, but I swear it works. Used it twice now. Yeah, it sucks to pay, but considering I wasted hours trying to get through before, it was worth every penny for me.

Have you checked your mail carefully? Sometimes they send requests for additional info that look like junk mail. I almost threw mine away by accident!

Protip: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every online update. You never know when you'll need to prove you did something or they said something. I learned this the hard way 😩

idk man, maybe try sending a follow-up application? That's what I did when I didn't hear back and turns out they never got my first one. The system is so broken its not even funny anymore 🤡

Nooo don't do this! It can mess up your claim if they did receive the first one. Always call to check first before sending another application.

Oh snap, really? Good to know. Guess I got lucky they didn't receive mine the first time around 😅
