Need to report early return to work date on SDI Online - help please!
I'm currently on temporary disability and have been receiving SDI benefits since November. My doctor originally wrote that I could return to work on January 15, 2025, but now my employer wants me back on January 11th (4 days earlier). I'm definitely ready to go back, but I don't want to accidentally commit fraud by getting paid SDI benefits for days I'm actually working. How do I update this information in SDI Online? Is there a specific form I need to fill out or someplace in my account where I can report my actual return-to-work date? I've looked around in my SDI Online account but can't find anything obvious. Has anyone dealt with this situation before?

You should be able to report your return to work date right on the SDI Online portal. I think its under claim information or something like that. There should be a button or link that says something about reporting RTW date. Do it as soon as u know for sure about the 11th!

•Thanks! I'll look again. I must have missed it the first time. Do you happen to remember specifically where? There are so many different sections in the portal.

To correctly report your early return to work date, log into your SDI Online account and go to the 'View Claim Information' section. Look for 'Report Return to Work Date' or something similar. You'll need to enter your actual first day back at work (January 11, 2025) and submit it. The system will automatically adjust your claim to end benefits the day before you return to work. It's really important to report this as soon as you know your official return date, as they'll consider any overpayment as fraud if you receive benefits for days you're working. If you can't find the option online, you should call EDD directly to report it.

•Thank you so much for the detailed instructions! I'll check the 'View Claim Information' section specifically. I definitely want to avoid any overpayment issues.

omg the SAME thing happened to me last year!!! so frustrating trying to figure this out. I ended up going back to work 5 days before my doctor's note said and didnt tell EDD and they paid me for those extra days and then 3 months later they hit me with an overpayment notice for $457!!! Such a headache. Definitely report it ahead of time!!!!

•Oh no! That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Did you have to pay it all back at once or were you able to set up some kind of payment plan?

I just went through this last month. If you can't find the option to report your return to work date online (which happens because their website is HORRIBLE), you'll need to call them directly. But good luck with that!!! I tried calling for THREE DAYS straight and either got disconnected or was on hold forever. The whole system is designed to make you give up.

•If you're having trouble getting through to EDD on the phone, you might want to try using Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to an actual EDD representative without the endless hold times. I was skeptical at first, but it worked for me when I needed to update my return to work date after surgery. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd and their website is claimyr.com. Saved me hours of frustration when I needed to make a similar change to my claim information.

Honestly, the SDI Online system is so confusing and not intuitive at all. I was in a similar situation and what worked for me was: 1. Log into your SDI Online account 2. Click on "View Claim Information" 3. Scroll down to find the section about return to work 4. There should be a button or link to update/report your return to work date 5. Enter January 11, 2025 as your return date If you don't report it, they might continue paying you, and then you'll have to deal with an overpayment situation, which is a NIGHTMARE to resolve. Trust me, I've been there.

•It can definitely be frustrating. If you've already checked online and can't find the option, you should call their customer service line at 1-800-480-3287. Make sure to have your claim ID number ready when you call. The best time to call is usually right when they open at 8:00 AM.

UPDATE: I found it! For anyone who might have the same question in the future, here's where it was: 1. Log in to SDI Online 2. Click "View Claim Information" 3. Scroll down to the section called "Claim Status Information" 4. There's a button that says "Report Return to Work" I entered my January 11th date and got a confirmation screen. The rep said my benefits will now stop on January 10th. Thanks everyone for your help! The online system really isn't very intuitive, but at least I got it figured out.

Glad you got it worked out! Make SURE you save that confirmation page or number. I'd even take a screenshot as proof you reported it correctly. EDD has been known to make "mistakes" on their end and then blame the claimant. Better safe than sorry!

•That's good advice - I took screenshots of the confirmation page and also the updated claim information page showing my new return to work date. I've learned my lesson about documenting everything when dealing with government agencies!
