How to extend EDD leave for postpartum mood disorder? Need advice ASAP!
Hey everyone, I need some advice on extending my leave due to postpartum mood disorder. I just got diagnosed and I'm not sure how to go about asking for an extension. Has anyone been through this process before? What kind of documents do I need to prepare? I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and could use some guidance.

I went through something similar last year. First thing you need to do is get a letter from your doctor explaining your diagnosis and recommending extended leave. Then you'll need to contact your HR department and the EDD to start the process. It can be a bit of a hassle, but don't give up!

•Thank you so much for the advice! Did you have to fill out any specific forms for EDD?

•Yes, you'll need to fill out a Claim Extension form. You can find it on the EDD website. Make sure you have your doctor fill out their portion too!

•Just wanted to add that it's super important to keep copies of EVERYTHING you submit. The EDD can be a real pain sometimes 🙄

Here's a detailed breakdown of what you need to do: 1. Get a medical certification from your doctor detailing your diagnosis and need for extended leave. 2. Contact your employer's HR department to inform them of your situation. 3. File a Claim Extension form with EDD (DE 2525XX form). 4. Gather any additional documentation like treatment plans or therapy schedules. 5. Keep a record of all communications with EDD and your employer. 6. Be prepared for possible delays and follow up regularly. Remember, you have rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and California's pregnancy disability leave laws. Don't let anyone push you around!

Has anyone actually managed to get through to a real person at EDD lately? I've been trying for weeks and keep getting stuck in their stupid automated system 😤

•I found a way! There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20 but it's worth it to actually talk to someone. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous, we shouldn't have to pay for basic service 😡

•I get it, but after spending hours trying to get through, $20 seemed like a small price to pay. It saved me so much time and frustration.
