EDD portal issues - got a bill for late reporting, need advice!

I got a letter in the mail saying I owe money because my portal didn't exist until it was too late. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm freaking out because I can't afford to pay this right now. Any advice on how to handle this situation?

Ugh, that sucks! I've been there before. Here's what you should do when you call them: • Explain clearly that you couldn't access the portal • Ask nicely if they can waive the fee due to the technical issue • Offer any proof you have of when you tried to use the portal Good luck! Let us know how it goes šŸ¤ž

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely try that approach. Do you think I should write down what I want to say beforehand?

Absolutely! Writing it down helps a ton. You'll feel more prepared and less likely to forget important points. Plus, you can practice what youre gonna say šŸ‘

This is solid advice. I'd add: be super polite but firm. Don't let them push you around, but killing them with kindness often works wonders šŸ˜‡

omg i had the EXACT same problem!!! its so frustrating. i spent hours trying to get through to someone on the phone. keep trying tho, eventually i got someone who was actually helpful and they waived the fee for me

Have you tried contacting your local representative? Sometimes they can help push things through faster. Worth a shot!

I hadn't thought of that! How do I find out who my local rep is?

Just google '[your state] find my representative' and there should be a website where you can enter your address. They usually have contact info right there. Good luck!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

20 bucks tho? That's kinda steep...

I get it, but think about how much your time is worth. For me, not having to sit on hold for hours was def worth it

Document EVERYTHING. Save screenshots, write down dates and times you tried to access the portal. The more evidence you have, the better your case will be. Trust me, I learned this the hard way 😩
