EDD keeps 'losing' my disability app info - sent 3x, 2+ months of appeals. Help!
I'm so frustrated with my disability application. The EDD keeps saying they haven't received my information, but I've sent it THREE times already! I've been filing appeals and resending everything they ask for, but it's like talking to a brick wall. This has been going on for over 2 months now. Anyone else dealing with this nightmare? Any advice on how to actually get through to them?

Ugh, I feel your pain! I went through something similar last year. It's like they have a black hole where all our documents disappear 🕳️ Have you tried faxing the documents? Sometimes that works better than mailing or uploading online.

Thanks for the suggestion! I haven't tried faxing yet. Do you know if there's a specific fax number for appeals?

Yeah, there should be a fax number on your appeal paperwork. If not, try calling the main EDD number (good luck getting through lol) and ask for the appeals fax number. Keep us posted!

Faxing in 2023? What is this, the stone age? 🦕 EDD needs to get with the times smh

I've been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Here's what finally worked for me: 1. Document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every fax. Keep a log with dates, times, and names if possible. 2. Contact your local state representative or senator. They often have staff dedicated to helping constituents with state agency issues. 3. If you're really desperate, consider hiring an attorney who specializes in disability claims. It might cost you, but it could speed things up. 4. Keep appealing! Don't give up, even if it feels hopeless. 5. Try to get a direct email for someone in the appeals department. Sometimes email works better than snail mail. Hang in there, OP. The system is broken, but you'll get through this eventually.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start keeping better records. Do you have any tips on how to contact my state rep?

Sure thing! Just google '[your city] state representative' and you should find their office contact info. Most have online forms you can fill out to request help. Be clear and concise about your issue when you reach out.

Have you tried calling them directly? I know its a pain, but sometimes getting a human on the phone is the only way to cut through the red tape.

I've tried calling so many times, but I always get stuck on hold for hours and then get disconnected. It's maddening!

Pro tip: I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Wait, what? You can pay someone to wait on hold for you? That's genius! But also kinda sad that we have to resort to this 😅

Sounds sketchy. Has anyone else tried this service? Is it legit?

Have you considered going to their office in person? Sometimes face-to-face interaction can make a big difference. Just be prepared for a long wait.

I didn't even know they had physical offices! Do you know where I can find the nearest one?

Check the EDD website, they should have a list of office locations. But call ahead first to make sure they're open and accepting walk-ins. Good luck!

It's been rough, not gonna lie. Lots of ramen, odd jobs, and help from family. But I'm not giving up!

Plot twist: What if the EDD is actually run by a bunch of squirrels 🐿️ who are just burying all our documents for the winter? It would explain so much...
