EDD claim effective date wrong, can't get payments or reach EDD. Help!
Has anyone else had issues with their claim effective date being wrong? I filed my claim online on 3/24 but EDD has it listed as 4/7. I haven't received any payments because of this and I can't get through to anyone at EDD to fix it. It's been weeks and I'm getting really worried. Any advice on how to handle this?

Pro tip: keep a log of every interaction you have with EDD. Date, time, who you spoke to, what was said. It'll help if you need to escalate things later.

This might sound crazy, but have you tried sending a letter by snail mail? I've heard some people have had success with that when all else fails. Worth a shot!

Have you checked if there were any issues with your identity verification? Sometimes that can delay the effective date. Might be worth double-checking all your docs are in order.

It's a good point. Any discrepancies with identification can definitely cause delays in processing.

This is why we need a complete overhaul of the unemployment system. It's not just EDD, it's broken everywhere. We need to demand better from our government!

Have you tried sending them a message through your UI Online account? Sometimes that works better than calling. Make sure to clearly explain the discrepancy and provide any evidence you have of your original filing date.

I didn't even know you could do that! Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try. Fingers crossed 🤞

Yeah, the messaging system can be hit or miss tho. I sent like 3 messages before I got a response. But at least you don't have to sit on hold for hours 🙄

While Claimyr can be a useful tool for reaching a live agent at EDD, it's important to consider that not all users may find it worth the cost. There are other steps you can take that might resolve your issue without spending money. It's crucial to weigh the pros and cons based on your current situation. Also, keep in mind that the system should ideally work without needing additional services, but given the current backlog and issues at EDD, such services can be a lifesaver for those struggling to get through. Always check reviews and see if there have been any updates or changes in service that could affect its usefulness.

Balance in approach is essential. Sometimes, the cost is justified by the time and stress saved, but it's not a one-size-fits-all solution.

This happened to me too! It's so frustrating. I ended up contacting my local assembly member's office and they were able to help me get it sorted out. Might be worth a shot if you can't get through to EDD directly.

Wow, I never thought of that. How did you find your assembly member's contact info?

Just Google "[your city] assembly member" and it should come up. They usually have a form on their website for constituent services. Good luck!

Involving a local representative can sometimes expedite things as they tend to have direct contacts within the EDD.

Surprisingly, faxing can sometimes get quicker attention since it's less common nowadays, but it's always good to verify their fax number.

Just a heads up, if you do get it fixed, make sure to certify for all the weeks you missed! They should let you backdate your certifications once the effective date is corrected.

Ugh, classic EDD. Their system is so messed up. I had a similar issue last year and it took me forever to get it fixed. Keep trying to call them, eventually you'll get through. Good luck!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

It's unfortunate that external services are necessary, but sometimes they're the most efficient option. Make sure to check reviews and feedback about Claimyr before using it.

Here's what you need to do to fix your claim effective date: 1. Document everything. Write down the date you filed, any confirmation numbers you received, and screenshots if possible. 2. Keep calling EDD. I know it's frustrating, but persistence is key. Try calling right when they open or just before they close. 3. Use the UI Online messaging system as a backup. Be clear and concise in your message. 4. If you can't get through, contact your local assembly member or state senator's office. They can often expedite EDD issues. 5. Consider using a paid service like Claimyr if you're really stuck. It's not ideal, but it can save you time. 6. Once you get through, explain the situation calmly and ask for a supervisor if the first person can't help. 7. Request a "backdating" of your claim to the correct date. Make sure they understand this has affected your payments. 8. Get everything in writing. Ask for confirmation numbers and follow-up emails. 9. Keep following up until it's resolved. Don't assume it's fixed after one call. Remember, you're entitled to your correct benefits. Don't give up!
