EDD Unemployment: 5-Month Delay, No Payment After Paperwork Submitted - What to Do?
I sent in my paperwork for unemployment benefits back in January, and it's been months now without any payment. I did get a confirmation that they received my documents, but nothing since then. Has anyone else experienced such a long delay? It's getting really frustrating and I'm not sure what to do next. Any advice would be appreciated!

Friendly reminder to everyone: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. You never know when you'll need that info.

Plot twist: what if we all just showed up at the EDD office with sleeping bags and camped out until they process our claims? Who's in? 😂

Lmao I'm picturing a bunch of unemployed people having a camp-out protest. Let's do it! 🏕️

Careful, they might hire us as 'seasonal workers' and then we'd lose our claims 💀

While it’s a funny thought, it might actually bring attention to the issue if it went viral. 🤔

Collective action might be the push needed to get things moving. It’s worth considering organizing something.

Has anyone tried the 'speak to a claims specialist' option on the website? I've heard mixed things about it.

I tried it. Waited 3 hours for a 5-minute convo where they told me to keep waiting. Total waste of time.

It actually worked for me! Got my issue resolved in one call. Guess it depends on who you get.

Seems like it's hit or miss. Worth a try, but don’t expect miracles.

Hot take: the system is working exactly as intended. They make it so difficult to discourage people from claiming benefits. Stay woke, y'all 👀

There's definitely something to be said about how complicated the process is. It seems designed that way.

Anyone else notice how they always seem to 'lose' paperwork right before holiday weekends? It's like clockwork at this point 🙄

It's uncanny how it always happens at the worst times. They need to be held accountable for these 'lost' documents.

I was in hospitality. Didn't realize some industries were getting more attention. That's interesting (and frustrating) to know.

Hospitality has been hit hard. Hopefully, they prioritize getting relief to those sectors soon.

PSA: If you're really struggling, don't forget to check out local food banks and assistance programs. No shame in getting help when you need it.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video for more info: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate and tried it. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

How long did you have to wait after using this service?

While it seems effective for some, it's important to weigh the cost against waiting on your own. Some might prefer this option while others might decide to be patient.

Ugh, the EDD is such a mess rn. I swear they're understaffed and overwhelmed. Not an excuse, but it might explain the delay. Hang in there!

I heard they had a major backlog, but they should be getting additional support. Hopefully, it gets better soon!

Welcome to the club, buddy. I've been waiting since December. It's like they're playing a game of 'How long can we make people suffer?' 🙄

I feel you! It's as if they enjoy making us wait. They seriously need to step up their game and sort out this mess.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes important emails from EDD end up there. Just a thought!

Conspiracy theory time: what if the EDD is secretly run by AI and that's why everything is so messed up? 🤖🤔

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. 2. Reach out to your local state representative. They can sometimes expedite claims. 3. Check your online account daily for any updates or requests for additional info. 4. If you can, try faxing your documents again. Sometimes they 'lose' paperwork. 5. Join Facebook groups for unemployment support in your state. They often have good tips. 6. Consider filing a complaint with the Department of Labor if it goes on much longer. Don't give up! The system is broken, but persistence usually pays off eventually.

Unpopular opinion: maybe try going to the office in person? I know it's a pain, but sometimes face-to-face is the only way to get results.

Pro tip: call right when they open. Set an alarm and be ready to dial the second they start taking calls. It's still a pain, but your chances are better.
