EDD Unemployment: 5-Month Delay, No Payment After Paperwork Submitted - What to Do?

I sent in my paperwork for unemployment benefits back in January, and it's been months now without any payment. I did get a confirmation that they received my documents, but nothing since then. Has anyone else experienced such a long delay? It's getting really frustrating and I'm not sure what to do next. Any advice would be appreciated!

Giovanni Marino

Friendly reminder to everyone: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. You never know when you'll need that info.

Great advice! Having a paper trail is essential in these situations.

Plot twist: what if we all just showed up at the EDD office with sleeping bags and camped out until they process our claims? Who's in? 😂

Lmao I'm picturing a bunch of unemployed people having a camp-out protest. Let's do it! 🏕️

Careful, they might hire us as 'seasonal workers' and then we'd lose our claims 💀

While it’s a funny thought, it might actually bring attention to the issue if it went viral. 🤔

I'm down. What are you thinking? Protest? Petition? I'm so fed up with this bs

Count me in. This has gone on way too long. We need to make some noise!

Collective action might be the push needed to get things moving. It’s worth considering organizing something.

Has anyone tried the 'speak to a claims specialist' option on the website? I've heard mixed things about it.

0 coins

-

StarGazer101

I tried it. Waited 3 hours for a 5-minute convo where they told me to keep waiting. Total waste of time.

It actually worked for me! Got my issue resolved in one call. Guess it depends on who you get.

Seems like it's hit or miss. Worth a try, but don’t expect miracles.

Hot take: the system is working exactly as intended. They make it so difficult to discourage people from claiming benefits. Stay woke, y'all 👀

There's definitely something to be said about how complicated the process is. It seems designed that way.

Anyone else notice how they always seem to 'lose' paperwork right before holiday weekends? It's like clockwork at this point 🙄

Amara Okonkwo

It's uncanny how it always happens at the worst times. They need to be held accountable for these 'lost' documents.

hey op, what industry did u work in b4? some industries are getting extra scrutiny rn, might explain the delay

0 coins

-

Amina Diallo

I was in hospitality. Didn't realize some industries were getting more attention. That's interesting (and frustrating) to know.

Hospitality has been hit hard. Hopefully, they prioritize getting relief to those sectors soon.

PSA: If you're really struggling, don't forget to check out local food banks and assistance programs. No shame in getting help when you need it.

Agreed. These resources are there to help. Don’t hesitate to use them in tough times.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video for more info: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate and tried it. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

How long did you have to wait after using this service?

While it seems effective for some, it's important to weigh the cost against waiting on your own. Some might prefer this option while others might decide to be patient.

Ugh, the EDD is such a mess rn. I swear they're understaffed and overwhelmed. Not an excuse, but it might explain the delay. Hang in there!

I heard they had a major backlog, but they should be getting additional support. Hopefully, it gets better soon!

Welcome to the club, buddy. I've been waiting since December. It's like they're playing a game of 'How long can we make people suffer?' 🙄

I feel you! It's as if they enjoy making us wait. They seriously need to step up their game and sort out this mess.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes important emails from EDD end up there. Just a thought!

0 coins

-

Amina Diallo

Good idea, but I've been checking everywhere. Nothing from them since the initial confirmation 😞

Always a good practice, especially when waiting on important communications. You never know!

Conspiracy theory time: what if the EDD is secretly run by AI and that's why everything is so messed up? 🤖🤔

0 coins

-

Oliver Schmidt

Lol if it was AI it might actually work better 😂

0 coins

-

7M

Natasha Volkov

Nah, AI would be more efficient. This is definitely old-school human incompetence at its finest 🏆

-

AI might actually handle this smoother. Maybe they need to upgrade their systems. 😂

Sending positive vibes your way, OP. This process is soul-crushing, but don't let it break you. You've got this! ❤️

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. 2. Reach out to your local state representative. They can sometimes expedite claims. 3. Check your online account daily for any updates or requests for additional info. 4. If you can, try faxing your documents again. Sometimes they 'lose' paperwork. 5. Join Facebook groups for unemployment support in your state. They often have good tips. 6. Consider filing a complaint with the Department of Labor if it goes on much longer. Don't give up! The system is broken, but persistence usually pays off eventually.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely try reaching out to my rep. Didn't even think of that.

Keeping a detailed record is crucial. It helps if you ever need to escalate your case or if further documentation is required.

I feel ya, OP. I was in the same boat last year. Took me 5 months to get my first payment. The system is totally FUBAR. Hang in there!

It's outrageous how long people are waiting. Hope they fix these issues soon for everyone's sake.

Unpopular opinion: maybe try going to the office in person? I know it's a pain, but sometimes face-to-face is the only way to get results.

0 coins

-

Aisha Mohammed

Lol good luck with that. Last time I tried, the line was around the block and they closed before I got in 🤡

This actually worked for me! Took a whole day, but I finally got answers. Bring a book and snacks tho

If you plan to go in person, make sure to check office hours and maybe call ahead to see if an appointment is necessary.

Have you tried calling them? Sometimes you gotta be persistent and keep bugging them until they actually do something.

0 coins

-

Amina Diallo

I've tried calling so many times, but I can never get through. It's always busy or they hang up on me. It's driving me crazy!

Pro tip: call right when they open. Set an alarm and be ready to dial the second they start taking calls. It's still a pain, but your chances are better.

It's definitely suspicious. We should question why this keeps happening and demand more transparency.
