EDD SDI claim stuck in 'pending processing' for 3+ weeks - typical approval timeframe?
I hurt my back pretty badly at my warehouse job on February 11th and my doctor put me on temporary disability. Filed my claim through SDI Online right away and my doctor submitted their certification form about 4 days later. It's been showing 'pending processing' status for over 3 weeks now with zero updates. I'm getting seriously worried because rent is due next week and I've already blown through most of my savings. My friend who had carpal tunnel last year said her claim was approved within 10 days. Is this normal? Has the processing time gotten longer recently? Anyone know what the typical approval timeline is these days or if there's something I should be doing? Really stressing about bills piling up.

•5 weeks?! That's ridiculous. Did they at least backpay you for the whole period once it was approved?

The standard processing time for EDD SDI claims is typically 2-3 weeks, but it's not unusual for it to take 4-6 weeks during busy periods. A few things that might help: 1. Make sure your medical certification is properly submitted (sounds like it is) 2. Check if there are any "Items Required" showing in your SDI Online account 3. Ensure your identity verification is complete If everything looks good on your end, you might need to call EDD to check if there's a specific issue with your claim. They may need additional information that isn't showing up in your online portal.

•Thanks for the info! I don't see any "Items Required" and my identity was verified when I set up the account. I'll try calling them tomorrow, but I've heard the phone lines are impossible to get through.

I waited 7 weeks for my pregnancy disability claim to process back in January!!! The waiting is BRUTAL especially when bills are due. They really need to fix their system because people like us cant afford to wait this long!!!

•It's frustrating, but sometimes calling can help speed things up. I was in a similar situation with my claim last month. Try calling right when they open at 8:00 AM - that's usually the best time to get through.

Have you tried calling the EDD SDI phone number? Sometimes there are small issues they need to clear up that aren't visible on your online account. I had this happen with my claim - it was stuck in pending for weeks because they needed additional verification from my doctor that wasn't showing up anywhere in my online portal.

•I've had success using Claimyr when I was in a similar situation with my disability claim. It helped me get through to a real person at EDD after trying for days. They have a service where they wait on hold for you and call when an agent is on the line. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd It really helped me figure out why my claim was stuck - turned out there was a discrepancy between my earnings and what my employer reported.

•Oh no, that sounds awful! I just checked and don't see any messages in my documents section, which I guess is good? At least they haven't denied it...

By the way, when your claim is finally approved, they will backpay you from the 8th day of your disability (after the 7-day waiting period). So even though the approval process is taking a while, you won't lose any eligible benefits - they'll pay from February 19th (assuming your disability started February 11th as you mentioned). It's still stressful waiting for that first payment though. If you're having serious financial hardship, you might want to mention that when you call - occasionally they can expedite processing in urgent situations.

•That's really good to know about the backpay! I was worried I might lose some weeks of benefits because of their slow processing. I'll definitely mention the financial hardship when I call.

did u check to make sure ur claim isn't missing anything??? sometimes they dont tell u when something is missing and just let it sit there!!! check ur doctor certification date and make sure it matches ur disability start date!!!

•I checked again and everything seems to match up. My doctor put February 11th as the start date which is the same as what I put. But maybe there's something else they need that isn't showing up in my account? I'll try calling tomorrow.

Three weeks is unfortunately within the normal processing time these days, especially if there are any minor discrepancies they need to investigate. Here's what I recommend: 1. Call EDD at 1-800-480-3287 first thing in the morning (8:00 AM) 2. When prompted by the automated system, select the option for claim status 3. If you can't get through, try again around 4:00 PM when call volume sometimes decreases 4. Check your SDI Online account daily for any updates or document requests In my experience working with many claimants, most claims that are delayed beyond 3 weeks have some minor issue that needs resolving, but it's not always visible to you online. A phone call can often identify and resolve these issues quickly.

•This is great advice. When my claim was delayed, it turned out they needed wage verification from my employer that was holding everything up. A 10-minute phone call fixed it, but I would never have known without calling.

Thank you everyone for the helpful responses! I'm going to try calling them tomorrow morning right when they open. If I can't get through, I might try that Claimyr service since I really need to figure out what's going on. I'll update here if I learn anything useful that might help others in the same situation.
