EDD SDI check mailing schedule after fraud block on debit card option?
I'm currently receiving my SDI benefits by check because I can't get the debit card option anymore. Last year someone hacked my Bank of America EDD card and stole about $4,800 from my account. Even though I reported it, BOA has permanently blocked me from getting the debit card option again for 'security reasons.' Now I'm trying to figure out the actual mailing schedule for paper checks. My benefit period ends on a Sunday, and I'm trying to budget better. In the past when I had direct deposit, I would see my payment status change to 'paid' on Thursdays, but now with checks, it's unpredictable. Does anyone know what day of the week EDD typically mails disability checks? Are they always sent on the same day of the week? I'm trying to plan my bills around when I'll actually have the money in hand. Thanks!

they usually mail checks 2 days after it says paid on ur account. so if it says paid on thursday, check should be sent out saturday, but u wont get it til monday or tuesday cuz no mail on sunday. EDD is always slow with paper checks thats why i switched to direct deposit to my own bank

•Thanks for the info. I'd much rather have direct deposit to my personal bank account too, but when I called EDD they said the only options are paper check or BofA debit card. And since I'm blocked from the debit card, I'm stuck with paper checks. Has anyone successfully gotten direct deposit to a personal bank?

The EDD SDI program typically processes payments on a set schedule, but there are some nuances with paper checks. When your certification is processed and shows 'paid' status, paper checks are usually printed and mailed within 24-48 business hours. Most people report that if their payment shows as 'paid' on Thursday, the check is mailed Friday, and usually arrives Monday or Tuesday depending on your local mail service. Keep in mind that the Post Office doesn't deliver on Sundays and holidays, which can add delays. Unfortunately, the direct deposit option to personal bank accounts isn't available for SDI claims - only the BofA card or paper checks as you mentioned.

•This helps a lot, thank you! So it sounds like I need to plan for about 4-5 days between when it says 'paid' and when I can actually cash the check. That's going to make budgeting a bit tighter, but at least now I know what to expect.

I got blocked from the debit card to after someone stole all my money at an ATM in san diego when i live in sacramento!! BofA made me fill out all these forms and a police report and after 3 months they gave my money back but said i was blocked from debit cards forever. its completely unfair!!! i heard they do this to lots of poeple. the checks are THE WORST. sometimes mailed thursday, sometimes friday, got one on a tuesday once.

•Same thing happend to me!! BOA is terrible with fraud protection. When my account got hacked they didn't even notify me, I had to catch it myself and then they acted like it was my fault somehow? The whole EDD-BOA system needs a complete overhaul.

Just to add some information here: EDD's official policy is that paper checks are mailed within 24 hours after the payment is authorized (status changes to "paid"). However, in reality, many factors can affect this timing. I work with disability claimants regularly, and in 2025, we're seeing paper checks typically mailed as follows: - If payment is authorized Monday-Thursday: Checks are usually mailed the next business day - If payment is authorized Friday: Checks are typically mailed Monday The postal service then typically takes 2-3 business days for delivery, sometimes longer depending on your location and current postal volumes. For fraud victims, while you can't get direct deposit to a personal account, you might consider setting up automatic transfers from a new BofA account to your personal bank if you can get the restriction lifted. Call EDD at 1-800-480-3287 and ask to speak with their fraud department specifically about removing the "block" on your account.

•I've tried calling the EDD number for WEEKS about getting the fraud block removed and can never get through to an actual person. Always get the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and then it hangs up on me. So frustrating!

I had the exact same problem last year after my card was stolen! After months of trying to call EDD's regular number and getting nowhere, I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to a live agent in about 20 minutes. You might want to check out their website claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd that shows how it works. I was able to talk to someone in the fraud department who helped resolve my BofA debit card block. It wasn't immediate but they did eventually lift the restriction after I provided additional verification.

NOBODY at EDD cares about us! They block ur debit card when THEIR security fails and then make YOU suffer with paper checks that take forever! Been dealing with this same nonsense since January. Check schedule is random - sometimes mailed Tuesday, sometimes Thursday. Longest I waited was 9 days from paid status to getting the check. NINE DAYS!!! How are we supposed to pay rent?

•9 days is really bad! That makes me nervous. I have rent due on the 1st but if there's a chance the check won't arrive until the 3rd or 4th, I need to talk to my landlord. Did you ever find any way to speed up the process?

I want to clarify about the check mailing schedule based on my experience working with many SDI claimants. The consistent pattern we've observed in 2025 is: - For Sunday certification dates: Payment typically authorizes by Wednesday evening, shows as "paid" Thursday morning, and checks are mailed Friday. Delivery usually occurs Monday or Tuesday. - For those with certification dates mid-week: The process is similar but aligned to your specific date. The 9-day delay mentioned above is extremely unusual and likely occurred during a holiday period or postal service disruption. The normal timeframe from "paid" status to check receipt is 3-5 business days. If you're experiencing longer delays, I recommend calling EDD to confirm they have your correct mailing address and to verify there are no holds on your claim.

•Thank you so much for this detailed breakdown! This is incredibly helpful. My certification date is Sunday, so based on what you're saying, I should plan on having the check by Tuesday of the following week in most cases. That gives me a much clearer timeline to work with.

just fyi i use the informed delivery app from usps and it shows me pictures of mail thats coming that day. i can actually see when my edd check is arriving! it's free and helps me know exactly which day to expect it instead of checking my mailbox 100 times lol

•That's a brilliant idea! I didn't know about the informed delivery app. Downloading it right now - that will definitely help with the anxiety of wondering when the check will arrive. Thank you!

I'm in a similar situation - had my EDD card compromised last fall and now I'm stuck with paper checks too. One thing I've learned is to always verify your mailing address is correct in your EDD account online. I had a delay once because my apartment number was missing from their system. Also, if you have a check cashing place nearby, some of them will cash EDD checks immediately for a small fee (usually $3-5) rather than waiting for your bank to clear it. Not ideal because of the fee, but it can help if you need the money right away for bills. Just make sure they accept government checks first. The whole BofA fraud blocking system is ridiculous - they profit from the EDD contract but then punish us when their security fails. Hope they fix this broken system soon!
