Will my newborn baby qualify for P-EBT card with CalWORKs? Had her in February
Just had my baby girl in February and she's on my CalWORKs case now. Wondering if she's gonna get her own P-EBT card? My older kids got them before but wasn't sure bout babies. Does anyone know if newborns qualify or is there an age requirement? Also do I need to do anything special to make sure she gets it or will they just send it automatically since she's already on my case?

P-EBT is only for school-age children who would normally get free/reduced lunch at school. Since your baby isn't in school yet, she wouldn't qualify for P-EBT. But make sure you've reported her to your CalWORKs worker so your cash aid amount increases! You should get the infant supplement for her which is like $100 extra I think.

•Ohhh that makes sense now! Thanks for explaining. Yeah I already reported her and got the supplement added to my cash aid. Just wasn't sure about the P-EBT because everything is so confusing with all these different programs.

Congrats on your baby girl! ❤️ P-EBT is only for kids who are enrolled in school meal programs, so no, your newborn wouldn't qualify. But since you mentioned CalWORKs, did you make sure to add your baby to your CalFresh case too? That will increase your food benefits! You should also apply for WIC if you haven't already - they provide formula, food, and baby supplies for children under 5.

•Thank you! Yes I did add her to CalFresh too and my benefits went up about $100. I'm already on WIC and they've been really helpful with formula. Just wish everything wasn't so seperate and confusing!

Just to add some clarity - P-EBT (Pandemic EBT) was specifically created to provide food benefits to students who couldn't access school meals during COVID-related closures. While there have been several extensions of the program, it's always been tied to school enrollment. Your newborn wouldn't qualify, but as others mentioned, you should definitely: 1. Make sure baby is added to your CalWORKs case (for increased cash aid) 2. Add baby to your CalFresh case (for increased food benefits) 3. Enroll in WIC if you haven't (great for formula/food until age 5) 4. Check if you're eligible for the diaper stipend through CalWORKs (about $30/month

•I didn't know about the diaper stipend! My worker never mentioned that. Is that something new? How do I apply for it?

The CalWORKs diaper benefit is $30 per month for each child under 3 years old on your case. Your worker should have automatically added it when you reported your newborn. Check your Notice of Action to see if it mentions the diaper benefit. If it's not there, call your worker RIGHT AWAY to ask about it. And honestly, if you're having trouble reaching your CalWORKs worker (like I always did), try using Claimyr.com - it got me through to a real person in about 10 minutes when I was trying for DAYS on my own. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE

P-EBT is for kids in school, not babies. But make sure u have ur baby on ur CalFRESH cuz that will help with food. n yea the diaper money is real, I get it for my 2yr old. $30 dont go far but better than nothing i guess lol

The P-EBT program might be ending soon anyway. I got a letter saying it was the last extension but who knows with all the confusing info they send out. Congrats on your baby tho!

•Thanks! Yeah I never know what to believe with these programs because they're always changing the rules or sending confusing letters.

So I just called about the diaper benefit and apparently it's been around since 2020!!! No one ever told me and I have a 2 year old and 10 month old twins! The worker said they'll add it retroactively for 3 months back but that's it. So mad right now that I missed out on like 2 years worth of diaper money because no one mentioned it! How are we supposed to know these things if they don't tell us??

•This happens ALL THE TIME with CalWORKs. They never tell us everything we're eligible for! I only found out about childcare assistance through CalWORKs after struggling to pay for daycare for 6 months. Makes me wonder what else we're missing out on...
