Where to find official list of schools that qualify for P-EBT 2025?
My kids' school sent home this vague paper about P-EBT cards possibly coming for some students, but it didn't say if our school actually qualifies. I checked the CalFresh website but couldn't find any clear list of eligible schools for the 2025 P-EBT program. Does anyone know where to find an official list of qualifying schools? My kids qualify for free lunch through the school's community eligibility program, so I think we should get P-EBT, but I want to make sure before I tell them to expect extra food money. Thanks for any help!

There isn't actually a public list of qualifying schools that I know of. P-EBT eligibility is based on whether your school participates in the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program AND if your child receives free or reduced-price meals OR if the school operates under Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Since you mentioned your kids' school uses CEP, they should definitely qualify if the school sent info about it!

•Thanks for explaining! So if the school sent that notice home, it probably means they qualify. Is there a way to confirm though? I don't want to tell my kids we'll have extra money for groceries and then it never comes.

•Oh that's good to know! I'll keep an eye out. Did you have to activate the card or anything when it arrived?

The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) maintains the official list of qualifying schools, but they don't usually publish it publicly. Instead, your school district submits information to CDSS about which schools operate under CEP or have students who qualify for free/reduced lunch. Since your school sent information home, that's a good sign they qualify. If you want to confirm, you have three options: 1. Contact your school's nutrition services department directly 2. Call your county CalFresh office and ask specifically about P-EBT eligibility for your school 3. Call the P-EBT helpline at 877-328-9677 (usually long wait times) Keep in mind that P-EBT for 2025 is being issued in phases, so even eligible students might receive benefits at different times.

•I tried calling the P-EBT number once and was on hold for TWO HOURS before giving up. Their system is completely broken!! And when you call the county office they just transfer you back to the same useless P-EBT line. It's like they WANT to make it impossible to get help!

Have u looked at the benefitscal website? They sometimes have P-EBT info there. My kids qualify cuz their school is Title 1 but we didnt get cards until like 2 months after other schools started getting them. So dont panic if u dont get them right away

If you're having trouble getting through to anyone about P-EBT eligibility, I'd highly recommend trying Claimyr. I was stuck in the same situation - couldn't get through to anyone at the county to confirm my kids' eligibility. Claimyr helped me skip the phone queue and get through to a real person who confirmed my school was on the list. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 or visit claimyr.com. It's the only way I've been able to actually reach someone at these offices lately without wasting an entire day on hold.

•Thanks, I might try this if I can't get answers from the school. The wait times are definitely frustrating.

Actually from what I understand, for the 2025 P-EBT program they've simplified things. If your child's school participates in the National School Lunch Program AND your child receives free or reduced meals (either individually or through CEP/Provision 2), they should qualify. The CDSS doesn't publish a list because it's constantly being updated as schools submit their data. Your best bet is to contact your school's nutrition services office directly - they will know for sure if they've submitted the necessary information to CDSS for P-EBT eligibility. Also, keep in mind that P-EBT is different from CalFresh, even though both put money on an EBT card. P-EBT is administered directly by the state while CalFresh goes through your county office.

•That's super helpful, thank you! I'll talk to the nutrition services office at my kids' school tomorrow. And thanks for clarifying the difference between P-EBT and regular CalFresh benefits - I was getting them confused.

This whole P-EBT thing is SO CONFUSING!!! Last year they said my kids qualified, then we never got cards, then they said we didn't qualify, then 6 months later random cards showed up in the mail!!! The government needs to make this WAYYY more clear instead of leaving parents guessing about whether they'll get help feeding their kids!!

•I hear you! The communication about these benefits is terrible. I think part of the problem is that it goes through multiple agencies - schools report to CDSS, then CDSS works with the EBT vendor, and nobody seems to talk to each other efficiently.

Just to clarify some confusion I'm seeing in this thread: 1. P-EBT eligibility is determined at both the SCHOOL level and the STUDENT level 2. For 2025, schools must participate in the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program 3. Students must either qualify for free/reduced meals individually OR attend a school that uses CEP/Provision 2 4. Not all students at a qualifying school will receive P-EBT (unless it's a CEP school) The reason there's no public list is that eligibility can change throughout the year as schools update their participation status and as students' meal eligibility changes. Your school nutrition department will have the most up-to-date information.

•Thank you for breaking it down so clearly! I talked to the nutrition services office and they confirmed our school is CEP and they've submitted all the information to the state. Now we just wait for the cards apparently. Really appreciate everyone's help!
