Where to check 2025 CalFresh supplemental benefit amount for household of 4?
Hey everyone! I just got a notice that CalFresh is doing some kind of supplemental payment in August for eligible households, but the letter doesn't say how much we'll get. We're a household of 4 (me, husband, 2 kids) with monthly income around $3,100. Currently get $825 in CalFresh. Where can I check how much extra we might get with this supplement? Is there a calculator or chart somewhere on the BenefitsCal site? I've already logged into my account but couldn't find anything about the supplement amounts. Thanks in advance for any help!

•I tried calling yesterday but got stuck in that awful phone tree for 45 minutes before I had to go pick up my kids. So frustrating!

The 2025 CalFresh supplemental payment is based on your household size and current benefit amount. It's not listed on BenefitsCal because this is a county-administered supplement, not a regular benefit. For a household of 4 receiving $825 monthly, you'd likely get approximately $150-200 extra as a one-time payment in August. This is based on the supplemental formula of 15-25% of your maximum allotment for your household size. You can find the exact information by: 1. Calling your county CalFresh office and asking specifically about the "August 2025 supplemental payment amount" 2. Checking your county's Department of Social Services website (each county has different supplement amounts) 3. Looking at the official CDSS memo ACL-25-42 (should be available on the state website

•Thank you! This is really helpful. I'll check for that memo number. Do you happen to know if this is a one-time supplement or will it happen monthly?

Last time they did a supplement I got like $75 extra and my neighbor got almost double that even though we both have 2 kids. The whole thing is super confusing. I think it depends on your income too not just household size. But that was back in 2023 so things probably changed.

If you're having trouble getting through to your county CalFresh worker, I'd suggest trying Claimyr. I was in the same situation last month with a different CalFresh question and kept getting disconnected. Claimyr got me through to a real person in about 10 minutes - they basically wait on hold for you and call you back when they reach a human. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 As for your question, supplements usually aren't shown on BenefitsCal because they're calculated separately from your regular allotment. The county worker should be able to tell you the exact amount for August.

•Is that service free? Seems weird to pay someone just to wait on hold...

•It's not free, but it saved me hours of frustration. Totally worth it when you're dealing with something important like your food benefits and can't spend all day calling repeatedly.

THE COUNTY NEVER TELLS YOU THE ACTUAL AMOUNTS!!! They do this EVERY TIME there's a supplement. I spent 3 HOURS trying to find someone who could tell me and got passed around to 4 different people! And guess what? NONE of them could give me a straight answer about how much we'd get!!! They said "just wait and see what shows up on your EBT card" which is RIDICULOUS when you're trying to budget for the month!!! The whole system is designed to keep us in the dark. Why send a notice about a supplement without saying the amount??? MAKES NO SENSE.

•I'm sorry you had such a frustrating experience! I was hoping there might be some kind of chart online. Seems like they should make this information more transparent.

To answer your follow-up question, this is a one-time supplement for August 2025 only. It's part of the state's temporary food assistance expansion program that was approved in the last budget cycle. For a household of 4 with your income level, you're likely receiving partial benefits (not the maximum allotment). The supplement is designed to bring you closer to the maximum benefit for one month. Based on the current benefit calculation, a household of 4 with $3,100 monthly income receiving $825 in regular benefits would get approximately $175 in supplemental benefits, but this varies by county. The exact calculation involves your countable income, deductions, and shelter costs that determined your base benefit amount.

•wait does that mean people getting max benefits already wont get any extra? seems unfair to people who need it most

I just got off the phone with my county worker (Sacramento County) and for us with a household of 4, the supplement will be $180. She said each county has slightly different amounts and it also depends on your current benefit level. She gave me a number to call for more info: 1-877-847-3663 (the CalFresh info line). Maybe that will help you get a specific answer for your county?

Thank you everyone for all the information! I finally got through to someone at the county this morning. For San Bernardino County, they said our household will receive approximately $190 as a one-time supplement in August. It will be deposited on the same day as our regular benefits. For anyone else looking for this info, I had to specifically ask for the "August supplemental payment chart" and the worker was able to look it up. They don't have this information posted publicly apparently, but they do have internal charts that show the amounts based on household size and current benefit level.
