Anyone know the P-EBT 4.0 benefit amount for CalFresh eligible kids in 2025?
Got a text that said my kids would be getting P-EBT 4.0 cards soon (we're on CalFresh) but it didn't say how much. Does anyone know what the amount is per kid this time around? My youngest is in elementary and oldest in middle school... do they get different amounts? Last time they got different colored cards than before which was confusing. thanks in advance!!

I just got the same text and was wondering the same thing! I called the P-EBT hotline but couldn't get through to a real person. From what I remember reading somewhere, P-EBT 4.0 is gonna be around $525 per eligible child, regardless of grade level. But I'm not 100% sure on that...

•thanks! $525 would be really helpful right now with food prices so high. Did your text say when they're sending out the cards? Mine was super vague.

The P-EBT 4.0 benefit amount for 2025 is $490 per eligible child for the full school year. This is the standard amount regardless of grade level, so both your elementary and middle school children would receive the same benefit. The cards should be arriving in phases based on your county, with most being distributed between February and April 2025. The cards will be light blue this time, different from previous rounds, and will come with instructions for activation. Make sure your address is current with your CalFresh office so you receive them. If you still have P-EBT cards from previous distributions, check if they have any remaining balance before the new ones arrive, as those funds may still be valid.

•This is EXACTLY what I needed to know, thank you so much!! Will double check our address with CalFresh since we moved last summer. Do you know if the benefit is loaded all at once or spread out over months?

my daughter got 520$ on her card last round and my son got 490$ so i think it depends on how many school days they qualify for?? different schools have different schedules so maybe thats why? idk the whole system confuses me lol

•That was probably P-EBT 3.0 which had variable amounts. From what I've heard 4.0 is standardized so all kids get same amount regardless of school.

To clarify some confusion: P-EBT 4.0 (2025) provides $490 per eligible student regardless of grade level. Unlike previous versions, this round has a standardized benefit amount. Eligibility requires the child to be in a household receiving CalFresh during the qualifying period OR attending a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school. The benefit is loaded as a one-time payment, not monthly. The blue cards will be mailed directly to the address on file with your CalFresh county office. If you need to update your address or have questions about your specific eligibility, you'll need to contact your county CalFresh worker. Unfortunately, the P-EBT hotline has extremely long wait times right now due to high call volume.

•I've been trying to get through to my county CalFresh worker for 3 days about this! Keep getting disconnected after waiting 45+ minutes. Any suggestions? My kids qualify but we moved and I'm worried about the cards being sent to our old address.

Hey, when I needed to update my address for P-EBT cards after moving, I tried calling for days but kept getting disconnected. I finally used Claimyr.com to reach a real CalFresh worker in about 10 minutes. They have this system that calls for you and gets you through faster - worked really well. There's a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. After I got through, the worker updated my address in their system and my kids' P-EBT cards came to our new place about 3 weeks later. Saved me a lot of frustration!

•Thanks for the tip! Just tried it and finally got through to someone who confirmed my address change went through. Such a relief not having to redial a million times!

•Yes, children who qualify for reduced-price meals under the National School Lunch Program are eligible for P-EBT 4.0. You don't need to be on CalFresh to qualify if your children already receive reduced-price school meals. The benefit amount is the same ($490 per eligible child).

my sister lives in oregon and says they get $1200 per kid there for p-ebt!!! why are california amounts so much lower???

•That information isn't accurate. Oregon's P-EBT benefit for 2025 is $463 per eligible child, which is actually slightly lower than California's $490. Each state has different rates based on their specific school closures and participation data from previous years. The benefit amounts are calculated at the federal level, not by individual states.

I just got my kids' P-EBT cards yesterday! (We're in Alameda County). They are definitely light blue like someone mentioned. Each card has $490 on it. You need the kid's date of birth and the zip code on file to activate. Just FYI they took about 3 weeks to arrive after I got the text notification.

•Thanks for the update! We're in San Diego County so hopefully ours are coming soon. Good to know about needing DOB and zip code for activation.
