Thanks for sharing this update about the RMP program in Kern County! This is really helpful information. Could you provide more details about which specific restaurants have been added or updated? It would be great to know the locations and any changes to participating establishments so community members can take advantage of these hot meal options.
I'm also interested in this information! As someone new to the CalFresh program, I'd really appreciate knowing which restaurants in Kern County participate in the RMP program. Are there any fast food chains or local restaurants that accept EBT for hot meals? And do you know if there are any specific eligibility requirements beyond just having CalFresh benefits to use this program?
I work at a legal aid clinic and we see EBT theft cases regularly. A few additional things that might help your aunt: 1. If she has any disabilities or health conditions that make it hard to access food, mention this when filing the CF 303 emergency form - it can help prioritize her case 2. Keep a log of every phone call made about this case (date, time, who you spoke with, reference numbers) - this documentation becomes crucial if you need to escalate 3. Some counties have EBT fraud victim advocates who can walk you through the process - ask her county worker if this service exists in your area 4. Consider reaching out to your local Area Agency on Aging - they often have emergency food programs specifically for seniors and can advocate on her behalf The investigation timeline is frustrating but legitimate. Banks and ATM operators sometimes take weeks just to provide the footage to investigators. The good news is that skimming cases typically have strong evidence once the footage is reviewed. Stay persistent with follow-ups but don't let them brush you off - seniors have additional protections under state law that caseworkers should be aware of.
This is incredibly helpful - thank you for sharing your professional experience with these cases! I didn't know about EBT fraud victim advocates or the Area Agency on Aging resources. The tip about mentioning health conditions on the CF 303 form is especially important since my aunt does have some mobility issues that make getting to food stores difficult. I'm going to start that documentation log you suggested right away - we've already made several calls but haven't been tracking them properly. It's reassuring to know that skimming cases usually have strong evidence once the footage is reviewed. Really appreciate you taking the time to outline these additional resources and protections for seniors!
I'm so sorry your aunt is dealing with this - EBT theft is incredibly stressful, especially for seniors on fixed income. Based on what others have shared here, it sounds like the investigation process is legitimate but frustratingly slow. A few immediate steps that might help while waiting: 1. Definitely file that CF 303 emergency benefits form ASAP - multiple people have confirmed this can provide temporary assistance 2. Contact your county worker directly instead of the general EBT line for better service 3. Look into local senior meal programs and food pantries through 211 The fact that it was $765 stolen means this should definitely be investigated thoroughly. Most people here who went through the full process eventually got their benefits restored, even though the 30-day wait is brutal when you need food now. Stay persistent with follow-ups and document everything. Your aunt shouldn't have to go hungry while waiting for bureaucracy to work. Sending support to both of you during this difficult time.
This has been such an eye-opening thread for someone new to both CalFresh and this community! I was actually panicking earlier this week when I heard secondhand rumors about EBT cards being "locked" overnight - as someone who works irregular hours and often shops late at night, I thought this would completely disrupt my routine. Reading through everyone's experiences and the clarifications provided, I now understand that what people experienced was temporary system maintenance for the EBT modernization project, not a permanent policy change restricting when we can use our food benefits. The distinction between food benefits and cash benefits having different rules is also really important to understand. What strikes me most is how poor the communication has been from the state about these maintenance windows. It's unacceptable that essential workers, night shift employees, and others who rely on off-hours shopping have to piece together information from buried website notices and community discussions just to know when they might not be able to buy groceries. Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and helped separate fact from rumor - especially those who took the time to actually call customer service or dig up the official notices. This kind of community support is invaluable when official channels fail to adequately inform the people who depend on these services most.
Welcome to the community! Your summary really captures the frustration so many of us have felt about the poor communication around these maintenance windows. It's honestly ridiculous that we have to become detectives just to figure out when we can use our benefits. As someone who's been navigating CalFresh for a while now, I can tell you this kind of unclear communication is unfortunately pretty typical - they'll send you three reminders about paperwork deadlines but leave you completely in the dark about system outages that affect your ability to eat! I'm really glad this thread helped clear things up for you and hopefully prevented unnecessary stress. The community here is great at sharing real-world experiences when the official channels fall short.
As someone new to this community and CalFresh, I want to thank everyone who contributed to this thread! I was actually researching whether there were time restrictions on EBT cards before I even applied for benefits because I work nights at a warehouse and do most of my shopping between midnight and 4am. The rumors about cards being "locked" overnight really had me worried that CalFresh wouldn't work with my schedule. But thanks to all the detective work people did here - especially those who found the buried maintenance notices and called customer service - I now understand it was just temporary system upgrades, not permanent restrictions. It's pretty disappointing that California can't communicate these maintenance windows better. Night shift workers, healthcare staff, and other essential workers shouldn't have to crowdsource information about when we can buy groceries! But I'm grateful for communities like this where people share real experiences and look out for each other when the official channels fail us. This thread definitely convinced me that this community is a valuable resource for navigating CalFresh when you can't get clear answers elsewhere.
Welcome to the community! I'm so glad this thread was helpful for you before you even applied for benefits - that's exactly the kind of proactive research that can save a lot of stress later on. As someone who also works unconventional hours, I totally understand the concern about whether CalFresh would work with your schedule. It's really frustrating that we have to do this much detective work just to get basic information about when our benefits will be available, but you're absolutely right that this community fills in the gaps when official communication fails. Warehouse work is tough enough without having to worry about when you can buy groceries! I hope your CalFresh application goes smoothly, and definitely don't hesitate to ask questions here if you run into any issues along the way.

After the clarification in your comments, this is definitely an administrative error. Your prorated August benefits should have been issued along with or before your September benefits. To resolve this efficiently: 1. Write down your case number, application date, and approval date before calling 2. Be clear that you're missing your prorated August benefits that should have been issued based on your mid-August application date 3. Request that they check the benefit issuance system specifically for August 4. If they confirm the error, ask for the estimated date when the correction will be processed 5. Get the worker's ID number or name for your records If you still can't reach someone by phone, you can also visit your local county office in person. Sometimes that's faster than calling.

•Thank you for such clear instructions! I'm going to try calling once more tomorrow morning (I heard that's the best time to get through) and if that doesn't work, I'll visit the office on Friday. I've written down all the details you mentioned so I'm prepared.

I went through something similar when I applied in July! One thing that helped me was calling the EBT customer service line (the number on the back of your card) and pressing 0 to speak to a person instead of going through the automated system. They can see ALL your deposits including pending ones that haven't hit your card yet. When I did this, they could see my prorated benefits were actually issued but took an extra 2 business days to show up on my card. If they don't see any August deposit at all, then you definitely need to contact your county office. But try the EBT line first - it's way easier to get through than the county phones! Also keep your approval letter handy when you call because it should show exactly what benefit amounts you're entitled to receive.

•This is really helpful advice! I didn't know you could press 0 to bypass the automated system on the EBT line. I'm definitely going to try this first thing tomorrow morning before attempting to reach the county office again. It would be such a relief if the August benefits are just pending and will show up in a day or two. Thanks for the tip about keeping my approval letter ready too - I'll make sure to have all my paperwork organized before I call.
