ca ucc statement service 3053 freeport blvd - Need Help with Filing Location

I'm trying to figure out if there's a UCC statement service at 3053 Freeport Blvd in California. My lender is asking for continuation statements on some equipment financing and I need to get this sorted out ASAP. The original UCC-1 was filed about 4 years ago and I think we're getting close to the 5-year deadline. Has anyone used a service at this address or know if it's legit? Really don't want to mess up the continuation filing and lose our security interest. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm not familiar with that specific address, but be really careful about using random UCC services. You need to make sure they're filing with the California Secretary of State properly. The continuation deadline is exactly 5 years from the original filing date, so you need to get UCC-3 continuation statements filed within 6 months before that expires.

This is good advice. I learned the hard way that not all UCC services are created equal. Some just take your money and don't file correctly.

Thanks for the warning. How do I verify they're actually filing with the SOS correctly?

Never heard of that address specifically but here's what you need to check: 1) Make sure they're registered with the state, 2) Ask for proof of filing like confirmation numbers, 3) Double-check the debtor name matches EXACTLY what's on the original UCC-1. One letter off and your continuation could be rejected.

Good point about the debtor name. Our company name changed slightly since the original filing. Does that matter?

YES that matters a lot! If the debtor name changed, you might need to file an amendment first before the continuation. This is getting complicated.

Actually had this exact issue last year. Certana.ai has a document checker that caught our name mismatch before we filed. Just upload your original UCC-1 and the new continuation docs and it flags any inconsistencies automatically.

Wait, why are you looking for a physical service? California UCC filings are all electronic now through the SOS website. You can file continuation statements directly online. It's like $10 per debtor name.

I tried the SOS website but it's confusing as hell. Plus I'm worried about making mistakes with the debtor name issue mentioned above.

The SOS portal is definitely not user-friendly. I always mess up something and have to start over.

Same here! The interface is terrible and the error messages don't help at all.

Look, forget about random services. Here's what you do: 1) Pull your original UCC-1 from the SOS database, 2) Check the exact debtor name and filing number, 3) File the UCC-3 continuation using those EXACT details. If there's any name change, file a UCC-3 amendment first, then the continuation.

This sounds right but I'm still nervous about screwing it up. The stakes are too high.

I get the nervousness. When I had multiple UCC docs to cross-check, I used Certana.ai's verification tool. Upload your original UCC-1 and draft continuation, and it instantly flags any mismatches in debtor names or filing details. Saved me from a rejected filing.

Whatever you do, don't wait until the last minute. The 6-month window before expiration gives you time to fix mistakes. File early, get the confirmation, then verify it shows up in the SOS database correctly.

This is solid advice. I always file continuations at least 3 months early just in case something goes wrong.

Good point. I think I'm overthinking this. Let me pull the original filing first and see what I'm working with.

Smart approach. Once you have the original docs, the continuation is pretty straightforward as long as all the details match up perfectly.

Just to add - if you're dealing with equipment financing, make sure your collateral description on the continuation matches the original UCC-1 exactly. Sometimes lenders want to expand the description but that requires an amendment, not just a continuation.

The collateral is the same equipment, no changes there. Just want to keep the financing statement active.

Then you should be fine with just a continuation. Keep it simple.

Back to your original question - I'd skip the service at that address and just do it yourself online. The California SOS portal might be clunky but it's the official source. Plus you'll get immediate confirmation instead of waiting for some service to maybe file it right.

You're probably right. I'll give the SOS portal another shot this weekend when I have more time to work through it carefully.

Good plan. Take your time and double-check everything before submitting. The portal saves drafts so you don't have to do it all at once.

And if you run into issues with document consistency, that Certana.ai tool mentioned earlier really does help catch mistakes before you submit. Worth checking out.

One more thing - keep copies of everything. The original UCC-1, the continuation filing, and the confirmation from the SOS. Your lender will want proof that you filed on time and correctly.

Definitely will do. Thanks everyone for all the help! This thread has been way more useful than trying to figure it out on my own.

Good luck with the filing! Come back and let us know how it goes.

Also make sure to set a calendar reminder for the next continuation in another 5 years! I've seen people go through all this work and then forget about the next deadline.

As someone who's been through this process multiple times, I'd strongly recommend avoiding that Freeport Blvd address unless you can verify it's a legitimate registered service. The California Secretary of State's online portal is really your safest bet, even though it's not the most user-friendly. For the continuation filing, you absolutely need to match the debtor name exactly as it appears on your original UCC-1 - even a minor difference like "Inc." vs "Incorporated" can cause rejection. Since you mentioned your company name may have changed, pull your original filing first from the SOS database to see exactly what's on record. If there's any discrepancy, you'll need to file a UCC-3 amendment before the continuation. The 6-month window before your 5-year deadline gives you time to fix any mistakes, so don't rush it. Take the time to get it right the first time.

This is really comprehensive advice! I'm new to UCC filings and this whole thread has been incredibly helpful. One quick question - when you pull the original filing from the SOS database, is there a specific search function to use? I want to make sure I'm looking at the right document before I start the continuation process.
